Purpose of the Position
Under the general guidance of the Senior Accountant - Analysis & Reconciliation, the incumbent will review and analyze the financial activity of the assigned region/division and/or focus area. He/she will also identify trends, variances and ratios and monitor compliance with UNICEF's rules, regulations, policies, procedures and guidelines.
Key Expected Results
- Review and analyse the financial activity of the assigned region/division and/or focus area; including the balance sheet and income statements of each assigned country/division. Identify and monitor trends, variances and ratios. Prepare aging analysis of all open items; identify long outstanding items and other anomalies. Oversee the completion of reconciliations and other analysis. Monitor compliance with UNICEF's rules, regulations, policies, procedures and guidelines. Communicate with country office and/or division focal points the results of the analyses; proactively and comprehensively.
- Produce timely and informative reports, schedules and analysis both on regular and ad hoc basis.
- Provide detailed list of instructions to others based on policies and procedures established in official UNICEF documentation. Identify and provide feedback and suggestions to management related to improvements to the system, reports and UNICEF's policies, procedures and processes.
- Perform periodic processing/closure activities.
- Perform other duties as required.
Qualifications of Successful Candidate
- A valid professional accountancy certification (CA; CPA; etc.) from an internationally recognized, accredited chartered accountancy institution in conjunction with a first-level (Bachelor's) university degree, in Accounting, Business Administration, Financial Management, Economics or a directly-related technical field is required. An advanced university degree (Master's) is an advantage.
- A minimum of five (5) years of relevant experience, at the national and international levels, in Finance, Budget, Accounting, or a directly-related field(s) is required.
- Knowledge and experience of International Public Accounting Standard (IPSAS) and/or International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) is required.
- Experience working with an Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system (particularly SAP) is highly desirable.
- Previous hands on experience in financial reporting and financial analysis is considered an asset.
- Previous hands on experience in a managerial capacity is required.
- Fluency in English (verbal and written) is required. Knowledge of an additional UN Language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, Spanish) is considered an asset.
