About : The Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation (EGPAF) seeks to prevent pediatric HIV infection and to eradicate pediatric AIDS through research, advocacy and prevention and treatment programs. The Foundation is working to prevent mother-to-child transmission of HIV and to give children and families who live with HIV/AIDS a chance for a healthy future. Before the Foundation's inception, children affected by HIV and AIDS had no voice – and few medicines and interventions were available specifically for them. Thanks to the courageous efforts of Elizabeth Glaser and those who follow in her footsteps, the Foundation improves life for millions of children and families affected by AIDS each year by funding groundbreaking scientific research, providing lifesaving services, and advocating for children around the globe. EGPAF works closely with the Malawian Ministry of Health providing hands on technical support for HIV prevention, care and treatment services in 7 districts across the country.
Position OverviewThe E2P Officers will help the EGPAF Malawi office build evidence and documentation for our work and help put our best practices and lessons learned into action by integrating them into our programs. E2P Officers will be responsible for provision of technical support services in areas including: quality program design, program quality improvement, monitoring and evaluation, research, project reporting, documentation of best practices and learning across the program and ensuring effective and efficient program delivery. The E2P Officers will also be responsible for identification, documentation and dissemination of best practices including preparation of abstracts, manuscripts, media briefs and articles.
Responsibilities
Evaluation, Quality Improvement and Research Support (50%)
  • Contribute to the evaluation agenda and priorities for identifying evidence for programs
  • Participate in program evaluation and/or quantitative and qualitative data analysis to inform program performance
  • Contribute to data collection, monitoring and analysis
  • Provision feedback on data to supported sites and assist site-level staff on how to utilize data for local program planning and quality improvement; Including presentations of data dashboards and graphics to illustrate results and trends
  • Participate in data quality assessments, feedback and improvement activities of health facilities and/or local community based organizations
  • Support the analysis and reporting of data for Ministry of Health, EGPAF and donor use
  • Support and/or lead the presentation of evaluation results to stakeholders
  • Collaborate across the Strategic Information and Evaluation and Programs teams to translate evaluation and research into programmatic improvements
Documentation/Communications of Best Practices and Lessons Learned (50%)
  • Coordinate, research, write and edit original content for a variety of donor and other relevant stakeholders, including, but not limited to: key messages, newsletters (print and electronic), brochures, impact reports, event collateral, messaging, toolkits, and internal communication
  • Participate in the review and/or development of quarterly, semi-annual and annual project reports
  • Develop an overall and project-specific documentation plan(s) for documentation and best practices beyond the regular reporting requirements
  • Documentation of best practices and lessons learned for internal and external purposes
  • Lead and develop blogs on EGPAF Malawi's work for EGPAF's external website
  • Plan, implement and oversee EGPAF's communication activities in order to increase access and provision of HIV services in EGPAF supported districts and the country at large
  • Propose, coordinate with co-authors, and write article(s) for EGPAF's technical brief, Haba na Haba
  • Participate in proposal development as needed
Required Skills and Experience:
  • University degree in social sciences, demography, project management/monitoring and evaluation, statistics or related fields, or relevant work experience
  • Strong analytical and planning skills, and an understanding of a range of methods for monitoring, evaluation and assessment to promote evidence-based learning
  • Creative and innovative thinking, with demonstrated analytical skills and attention to detail
  • Demonstrated ability to design, commission, and manage assessment methodologies and evaluations
  • A strong quantitative background with experience in data collection, analysis, management and presentation
  • Ability to work in a team environment, but with self-sufficiency and self-motivation
  • Strong interpersonal skills coupled with excellent communication skills: verbal, written, listening, presentation and facilitation
  • Ability to multi-task; flexible and capable of working under pressure and tight deadlines with demonstrated ability to prioritize across multiple projects and relationships
  • Strong strategic thinking ability in communications and public relations environment
  • Exceptional writing and editing ability, including the ability to adapt to a variety of tones, styles and formats required to meet Foundation's goals
  • Superior organization/problem-solving skills
  • Excellent researching, interviewing, fact-checking and proofreading skills
Preferred Skills and Experience:
  • Experience in concept and proposal development and writing
  • Experience in supply chain management
  • MBA in marketing or related subject preferred with at least 2 years of relevant experience in Africa, especially southern Africa or any country sharing Malawi's economic status
  • Experience in private sector consumer and/or pharmaceutical marketing, preferably in emerging economies
Living Conditions: Fellows will be provided with housing, health insurance and a living stipend of $650/month. Fellows will receive an award of $1500 upon successful completion of the fellowship year. Flights to and from the placement site and all other costs associated with GHC programming are included, including $600 in professional development funds.
  • Note: the living stipend and completion award may be paid out in USD or local currency, as determined by the placement organization
