EDC’s International Development Division (IDD) focuses on three major areas: literacy and basic education, youth livelihoods and workforce development, and health. Another key strand of EDC’s international work focuses on helping countries expand economic opportunity and build civic society.
EDC works with governments, agencies, and other partners in 35 countries to develop programs that are respectful of cultural traditions and beliefs. The international division comprises six regional centers coordinating EDC’s work in West and Central Africa, East and Southern Africa, North Africa and the Middle East, Latin America and the Caribbean, Eastern Europe and Central Asia, and South and Southeast Asia.
At the moment, EDC is preparing for a complex basic education project focused on improved improve early grade reading and writing outcomes in Malawi.
Reading Instruction and Teacher Training Specialist
- At least three years of technical experience in teacher training programming and oversight. This experience should involve direct work experience on reading instruction, teacher mentoring, coaching teachers reading, classroom management and delivery of teaching instructions using a phonics approach.
- Experience with developing materials and managing national teacher trainings (In-Service and Pre- Service).
- Experience with teacher training curriculum development and implementation.
- Significant (at least two years) experience in designing and coordinating trainings in technical areas relevant to MERIT, demonstrated ability to effectively transferring skills and knowledge to program participants is essential.
- Experience coordinating trainings with scope and content similar to MERIT
- Technical ability to develop teacher training manuals on Early Grade Reading Instruction (School and/or community based).
- Technical ability on transferring reading skills using a phonics approach.
