Brief description of Istituto Oikos
Istituto Oikos (www.istituto-oikos.org), founded in Milan in 1996, operates in Europe and in developing countries to promote the responsible management of natural resources and to promote more sustainable patterns of life as instruments of social and economic development and to combat poverty. Vision: a future in which ecology, economy, equity coexist, reconciling the needs of man and environment. Mission: contribute to preserve ecosystems by promoting development with professionalism, innovation and participation.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE PROJECT
The project will operate in concert with the Quirimbas National Park Authority to diffuse in the local communities and entrepreneurs the knowledge of the area and the culture of environmental sustainability, to orient the existing economic activities towards more appropriate and sustainable forms of use of the environment and to initiate concrete and innovative experiences in the sectors of tourism and fishery resource management, to disseminate innovative approaches that can reconcile the demands of the environment and development, producing a diversification of sources of income and reducing the negative impacts on the critical areas (conservation through economic exploitation of natural resources).
General objective. Contribute to harmonize the socio-economic development of the coastal area of the National Park of Quirimbas with the protection of the region through the adoption of an integrated approach based on the direct participation of local communities, on the principles of sustainable development, the strengthening of food security and strategies to mitigate the effects of climate change.
Specific objective. Promote biodiversity conservation and economic development, cultural and social development of the people living in the coastal area of the Park of Quirimbas through integrated actions that promote the equitable, sustainable and innovative use of natural resources, the effectiveness of which can be easily demonstrated.
Period and duration of the contract: 12 months, renewable, with trial period of three months
Location: Pemba (Cabo Delgado Province, northern Mozambique) with regular visits to the area of intervention and Maputo.
Duties: the collaborator will be responsible for the overall management of the project PHARO and, in particular:
- · Orient, supervise and monitor the activities of the project; coordinate the staff; ensure continued technical support, with specific reference to the sectors of tourism, fisheries, the development of income-generating activities, the management of the financial facility, the construction and management of ECO lodge.
- · Coordinate, with the support of the administrative officer, the logistician and the administrator, local administration, contracts and purchases on the basis of the procedures of the EAW.
- · Manage, on the basis of specific memoranda of understanding, relationships with the local counterpart of the project (Quirimbas National Park), the member of the consortium (CAST) and other partners, and local and international actors
- · Coordinate and organize expert missions planned in the project.
- · Prepare plans and regular reports monthly, technical and financial, for internal use of Istituto Oikos.
- · Prepare plans and quarterly reports and final, technical and financial, to be submitted to the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, after approval by the head office.
- · Ensure visibility and communication activities of the project according to the visibility plan developed in consultation with the head office and approved by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Requirements:
- · Italian citizenship
- · Fluency in Portuguese and Italian
- · Degree. Socio-economic background is preferred
- · At least 6 years of experience in coordination and management roles in the field of international cooperation, in development contexts. Previous experience in Mozambique be an asset
- · Good previous experience in construction and management of complex institutional relationships, at high levels, particularly with local authorities in third countries (municipalities, provinces, local ministries)
- · Knowledge of EU and IMFA procedures, management and reporting projects
- · Excellent skills in planning, management and monitoring of activities
- · Ability to work in complex socio-political contexts and tightened timings
- · Ability to produce reports and reports in Italian and Portuguese
