Country representative (m/f)
in Lilongwe, Malawi
The post is to be filled as soon as possible and is initially scheduled to end on 31 December 2016. The office is located in Lilongwe, Malawi.
Objectives and responsibilities of the position
The objective of this position is the further development of the local specific country strategy in coordination with the Regional Directorate. As the country representative you represent Welthungerhilfe in the country and are responsible for carrying out Welthungerhilfe's projects in Malawi. You are responsible for the coordination, planning and proper reporting of the projects in accordance with the framework specified as regards content, time schedules and finance.
Your most important duties are as follows:
- Represent Welthungerhilfe and coordinate the project concept and planned project activities with local decision-makers, partner organisations and other aid agencies and development organisations operating in the project area
- Draw up of planning documents for project follow-on phases and for new projects in the region
- Identify other potential partner organisations; develop joint strategies and project ideas
- Selection and recruitment of national experts
- Manage and instruct international and national experts
- Ensure the proper planning of financial and material resources as well as regular reporting to the Regional Directorate and the co-financiers
- Warrant the required flow of information and public transparency of the project work in the country of deployment.
Your qualifications will include:
- A university or technical degree in the fields of agricultural sciences, engineering, rural development, or a comparable level of qualifications
- At least 5 to 7 years project and management experience in carrying out co-financed projects of international (aid) agencies, preferably in the region
- Coordination and organisational skills - even under a high workload
- Ability to communicate and work in a team
- Very good command of both written and spoken English
