Research Supervisor – Feed the Future Malawi Improved Seed Systems and Technologies (MISST) Project – Aflatoxin Control – Lilongwe – Chitedze Research Station
Position is under senior national staff category on Pay Grade 7
Under the supervision of the Program Manager for the Aflatoxin control project and as a team member of the larger Feed the Future Malawi Improved Seed Systems and Technologies (MISST) project, the Research Supervisor will be responsible for
Assist with coordinating microbiology activities in the laboratory, Maintain and operate basic laboratory equipment, Assist with proper data entry in laboratory books and document them in the computer, Assist with culture/isolate storage appropriately, Prepare draft standard operating protocols for laboratory methods, with scientists, Provide assistance/guidance to visiting students/scientists, Assist with preparing draft experimental reports, Conduct other assignments as assigned to by supervisor
Diploma in Microbiology/Plant Pathology/Crop Protection, At least 2 yrs experience in a microbiology research laboratory
Experience in Aspergillus microbiology research, Experience in analytical softwares especially SAS and other MS Office packages, Able to analyse data, prepare table sand write short reports, Able to build, coordinate working teams, Able to follow instructions and work independently where necessary, Good interpersonal relations, Good organizational, communication skills, Able to work under pressure, Available to work outside office hours and for extended hours where necessary, Available to travel where necessary
The contracts will be for a period of 2 yrs with possibility of renewal based on performance and availability of funding, These are nationally recruited staff positions and IITA offers nationally competitive remuneration packages paid I local currency
These positions will be based at IITA-Malawi offices, Chitedze Research Station, Lilongwe
