For the last 20 years, UNDP has assisted national authorities to address the immediate as well as longer-term challenges faced by Explosives Remnants of War (ERW) in affected countries. As part of its overall efforts in assisting national and local authorities to plan, coordinate and implement national mine action programmes, UNDP provides a variety of services to mine-affected states, including:
Article 12, paragraph 1, of the APMBC states that a "Review Conference shall be convened by the Secretary-General of the United Nations five years after the entry into force of this Convention. Further Review Conferences shall be convened by the Secretary-General of the United Nations if so requested by one or more States Parties, provided that the interval between Review Conferences shall in no case be less than five years; All States Parties to this Convention shall be invited to each Review Conference". Among its final decisions taken on the last day of the 13MSP to the APMBC on Thursday 5 December 2013, "the Meeting agreed that the Convention's Third Review Conference take place from the 23 to 27 June 2014 in Maputo, Mozambique" (Final Document, APLC/MSP.13/2013/CRP.1). Within this context, the government of Mozambique has requested UNDP to support the preparations and execution of the Review Conference. The purpose of the Review Conferences is to:
