Job purpose and key deliverablesThe incumbent will partner with laboratory personnel, IT personnel, and other supporting groups to maintain and improve the LIMS. The role will support the testing and validation of additional functionalities and additional applications of LIMS in the PSS environment. The role will focus on meeting customer expectations and working with a customer service mind-set.

Key Deliverables

  • Assist Manager with the preparation of the budget for  LIMS upgrades and interfaces. 
  • Ensure the current LIMS platform is maintained in a manner that guarantees availability to the laboratory and assures the systems availability for PSS to deliver to its customers’ requirements. 
  • Develop the LIMS platform to facilitate easy management of the following:
    ·    Sample Login
    ·    Sample Tracking
    ·    Chemical and consumable usage tracking
    ·    Equipment maintenance and calibration
    ·    Costing and recharge
    ·    Personnel Competency
    ·    Management Reports 
  • Ensure all laboratory instrumentations are interfaced to the LIMS to enable electronic data transfer. 
  • Develop, with IT support, a robust LIMS reporting platform. 
  • Drive Innovative solutions that will facilitate easy interface by personnel and customers. 
  • Implement infrastructure and management reporting that will provide the right type and level of information to support effective management of the laboratory testing process. 
  • Provide active collaborations on projects where analytical data analysis is required. 
  • Document the full infrastructure of the LIMS system and update this as changes occur. 
  • Validate the data and the LIMS system on a regular basis to ensure data integrity and data transfer integrity.  
  • Plan, coordinate and provide the required LIMS training to key stakeholder groups.
     
Essential requirements

  • Grade 12 certificate. 
  • Bachelor Degree in Computer Science and or Information Managment Systems. 
  • LIMS AdministratorTraining. 
  • LIMS Configuration Training. 
  • Crystal Reports Training 
  • Minimum 3 years relevant working experience.
Desirable requirements

  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft office software (Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Access). 
  • Proficient in the use of Crystal Reports 
  • Interpersonal skills – In working in a team with co-workers and service providers requires the Job Holder to possess excellent inter-personal skills. 
  • Motivational skills - In working independently, good motivational skills are required. 
  • Decision-making and problem solving skills – Analytical ability to effectively identify issues and business needs that affect workflow performance, and provide technical solutions to improve the performance. 
  • Communication skills – the ability to effectively communicate technical concepts. 
  • Presentation skills - Ability to present concise, clear presentations designed for the appropriate audience. 
  • Organising skills:  has to be able to schedule and organise work to meet deadlines as per the requirements. 
  • Thoroughness/Effectiveness: ensure that work is done correctly. A high level of accuracy is needed in this position. 
  • Detail orientation: have the capacity to pay close attention to detail. 
  • Strong Information gathering and Trouble-Shooting / Problem solving skills is required. 
  • The Job Holder should have the ability to work under pressure. 
  • Experience with development tools and languages: SQL, XML, eic. 
  • Experience with macros scripting, such as Excel macros. 
  • Working knowledge and understanding of laboratory operations and workflows. 
  • Experience creating and modifying Crystal Reports. 
  • Understanding SQL database queries and relationships. 
  • Experience with Windows Server, Active Directory Structure.
