D-tree International is a non-profit organisation dedicated to improving the quality of health care available to the world’s poor by using hand held technology to provide accurate and effective point-of-care diagnosis and treatment. Our vision is to equip frontline health workers with the tools they need to deliver first-class, evidence-based medical care to all patients. We are pursuing this vision by putting easy to use guidelines for diagnosis and treatment on mobile phones for use by health workers. The symptom-based protocols guide the user through a series of questions leading to an accurate diagnosis and treatment for each patient.

We are seeking a Field Assistant/Driver for our mobile health projects in Malawi, to provide driving services as well as general support to our field activities. We are looking to hire a full time Field Assistant/Driver for a period of one year, with the possibility of extension. The position will be based in Lilongwe with frequent travel to implementation field sites.

We seek a candidate who is motivated, interested in health care and technology, open to innovative ideas and technology, efficient, eager to work hard and a team player. Person must be comfortable in multiple roles including: driving, car maintenance, running errands, preparing phones for trainings, assisting at trainings.

Job Responsibilities
We are looking for a candidate who is willing to take on any tasks that are required to make our project/s successful. This will include:

Field assistant:
  • Assisting at trainings in the field
  • Assisting with training preparations at the office
  • Assisting with daily office activities
Driver:
  • Driving the organisation’s car(s) for any of the project activities
  • Running any required errands in town
  • Looking after the maintenance of the car(s) in terms of fuel, regular checks and servicing
Required Skills and Experience
  • Experience: extensive driving experience as well as experience working in an office environment
  • Education: minimal MSCE certificate, relevant diploma an advantage
  • Excellent written and spoken English and Chichewa
  • Telephone/Computer: proficient in the use of computers and mobile phones
  • Must be able to work independently, multi-task, be persistent and work with minimal supervision
  • Ability to travel over 50% of the time within Malawi.
