AGI Graduate Summer Internship Programme 2014 | |
TONY BLAIR AFRICA GOVERNANCE INITIATIVE 2014 SUMMER INTERNSHIPS IN AFRICA The Opportunity The Tony Blair Africa Governance Initiative (AGI) seeks to achieve real and lasting improvements in the capability of partner governments to deliver social and economic development for their people. This work focuses on those areas where we can make a substantive and additive contribution above and beyond the support provided by international development organisations and NGOs – primarily institutional and operational capacity at the heart of government and developing the private sector. AGI is now seeking applications for our Graduate Summer Internship. We are looking for an exceptional individual who would work in our Africa-based teams. The particular role will be tailored to the candidates’ skills and project needs – but successful applicants can expect to lead on a specific and discrete piece of work for the duration of their internship, alongside our government partners in our project countries – Sierra Leone, Liberia, and Rwanda. The role in one of our Africa projects will be determined in collaboration with our partner governments, and because of this we are mainly interested in applicants who will be flexible around their final deployment. You can read more about AGI’s projects here: http://www.africagovernance.org/ What we are looking for As in previous years, we are seeking a very small number of outstanding individuals with excellent professional and academic credentials and a proven track record of both leadership and successful delivery to join the team as summer interns. Candidates will need to demonstrate a number of core competencies: • An exceptional academic record • Proven policy and strategy skills , whether in the developing world or elsewhere • Building and managing effective relationships, including the ability to navigate complex political environments • Influencing and coaching and delivering change through others • Management and delivery, including excellent project management skills • Strategic planning and decision-making • Analysis and use of evidence • A creative and entrepreneurial approach to overcoming barriers and making change happen, and the ability to cope in emotionally demanding environments • Above all, high levels of enthusiasm, resilience, and a can-do attitude • An entrepreneurial approach to overcoming barriers and making change happen For all of the available roles, we would be particularly interested in hearing from candidates with substantial prior experience working at the heart of policy development and implementation in government. In particular, experience of providing direct policy and communications advice and support to ministers or senior officials and strategic policy making and delivery skills. Most roles will be shaped over time in collaboration with our partner governments, and thus we require candidates to be quite flexible in terms of their preference for country project and role. London Opportunity Finally, we may also have an internship opportunity based in our London office, working on a distinct project to research, capture and write a case study of AGI’s impact in one of our Africa projects. There is significant scope to shape this project alongside our Insights and Learning lead. If you think this may be of interest to you please state this in your cover letter. What we offer Though we value the work of our summer interns greatly, as a small charity we will not be able to pay a salary. We may be able to contribute to living costs on a case-by-case basis, though people are strongly encouraged to apply for appropriate sponsorship from their Graduate School. However, we are committed to making the experience an inspiring and developmental one, potentially leading to further roles within AGI or elsewhere. How to apply To apply, please upload a CV and Covering Letter to the AGI careers page which can be found by following the link below. Please ensure that both CV and Cover Letter are collated into one document as the system will not allow you to upload more than one document. http://agi.force.com/jobboard CVs and covering letters must be no more than 2 pages each.
