ORGANIZATIONAL BACKGROUND:
The Women’s Refugee Commission (WRC) works to improve the lives and defend the rights of refugee and internally displaced women, children and young people. As an advocacy organization, the WRC is dedicated to bringing about systemic changes that lead to greater respect for the rights of uprooted women, children and young people. The organization strives to effect policy and programmatic change with broad, worldwide impact.
SCOPE OF WORK:
The WRC has seen unprecedented growth over the last year and seeks to expand its development department from three to four staff members. The Development Manager is a new position and will play a key role in the WRC’s fundraising operations ($7.1 million annual budget). Under the supervision of the Senior Development Officer for Governments and Foundations, the Development Manager will provide essential support for our institutional fundraising portfolio (foundations, governments and some corporate) including development of proposals prospect research; management of the reporting process; coordinating and tracking grants and reports; and assisting with donor cultivation and events.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
· Work with Senior Development Officer and program staff with the development of proposals.
· Conduct research on foundation, government and corporate funders and trends. Includes identifying and researching new sources of support and preparing donor and prospect briefings.
· Manage the reporting process, including working with program staff to make sure reports are submitted properly and in a timely manner.
· Assist the Senior Development Officer with cultivation and donor stewardship—drafting correspondence; preparing materials and packages for meetings; coordinating meetings; and making sure donors are aware of important WRC news and events.
· Liaise with the development coordinator and Finance team to reconcile revenue and make sure institutional gifts are accurately reflected in Raisers Edge.
· Assist with management of electronic and hard copy filing system on donors and prospects.
· Assist with annual luncheon and cultivation events as needed.
REQUIREMENTS:
· Bachelors degree required
· 3-5 years working in development or non-profit administration
· Strong IT and computer skills and proficiency in Word and Excel
· Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize competing tasks
· Excellent written and oral communication skills
· Flexible approach to work; the ability to work in a fast paced environment
· Demonstrated ability to handle sensitive information in a confidential manner
· Knowledge of The Raiser’s Edge a plus
