The Country Director (also known as Country Program Leader) represents PATH in South Africa and leads the organization in country. S/he provides the integrated view of PATH to South Africa and of the country back to PATH. The Country Director mobilizes institutional alignment to meet country needs, orchestrating integrated execution, enabling sustainable program design, sourcing innovation locally and harnessing best practices and best in class learning's from abroad, and ensuring that donors' investments through PATH demonstrate value for money.
PATH's South Africa Country Director is responsible for business development to enable a diversified and sustainable portfolio and for quality execution of solutions and projects across all of PATH's platforms. S/he will also nurture the right partnerships and evidence development to ensure local to global impact wherever possible. The Director will endeavour to earn the recognition as the leading NGO in global health innovation, especially in the development and commercialization of devices and diagnostics. Other strategic objectives for PATH in South Africa include improved health outcomes for women and children, strengthen implementation science around selected integrated HIV/TB prevention, treatment, care and support interventions, access, use and acceptance of sexual and reproductive health services as well as contribute to the prevention and management of non-communicable diseases. The Country Director is based in Johannesburg, South Africa and will report to PATH's Managing Director of International Programs.
Success as the Country Director in South Africa requires exceptional organizational and business acumen to forge an integrated identity for PATH in country, manage the office with cultural acuity and strategic management of PATH's and donors resources. S/he is a seasoned people leader who can scale through others, inspires high performing teams, and enable structures for cross-functional and cross-project collaboration. Project management and execution excellence are his/her hallmarks with the utmost commitment to compliance. While s/he is committed to meeting or exceeding project goals, s/he also continuously looks for and reinforces cross-project synergy, leveraging the existing anchor projects to earn credibility for PATH in the local public health community, and earn trusted advisor status with key stakeholders in the most strategic areas for PATH in South Africa. With a keen understanding of country needs, the Country Director will also be optimally positioned to forge creative solutions through public-private partnerships and participate in agenda setting discussions with donors and public health stakeholders.

Required Skills
Required Experience
Advanced degree in public health, medicine or related field. Advanced technical competency in at least one of PATH's key programmatic areas (i.e. Maternal Child Health and Nutrition, HIV/TB, Non-communicable diseases, Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights and / or technology innovations). Advanced degree in business management or 10+ years' experience as leader of a mid-large organization. Track record of creating high performing and adaptable teams. Written and oral fluency in English.
The successful applicant must be able to travel internationally and domestically as needed (at 20% of time).
