Communications Officer Malawi

Mary’s Meals is a fast-growing international charity, currently provid ing over 923,500 hungry and impoverished children in five continents with a daily school meal.
We are looking for Communications Officer for a two year fixed term contract to work in Mary’s Meals Malawi’s school feeding programme, which is currently reaching over 700,000 children with a daily meal in primary school as well as 6,500 orphans and vulnerable children. Mary’s Meals Malawi is part of the global Mary’s Meals movement and is focused on achieving the goal that every child receives a daily meal in their place of education.
The Communications Officer is part of the International Communications Team and also works with staff in Malawi and Zambia and other directorates to successfully deliver a wide range of communications content, activities and projects aimed raising awareness of the programmes in Malawi and Zambia. This will be through the provision of a flow of news, stories, case studies and information that enables Mary’s Meals to raise awareness and fundraise globally.
You will also have responsibility for the Sponsor a School campaign in Malawi/Zambia and to promote and administer the campaign. You will be required to raise awareness about the work of Mary’s Meals and, occasionally, doing public presentations.
Reporting to the Content Development Manager and the Regional Director for Malawi/Zambia, you will apply your considerable creative abilities and strong aptitude for communications to share the inspiring message of Mary’s Meals throughout the world.
To support the organisation in raising awareness of the simple approach of Mary’s Meals in lifting children in the developing world out of poverty, you will be responsible for the development and implementation of the charity’s in-country communications and supporting campaigns.
A person who can build strong relationships with in-country local media and network with established international groups as the organisation continues to expand. A self-motivated individual who is highly resilient, capable of working independently, with excellent communication, organisation, prioritisation and time management skills is essential.Degree qualified or equivalent level professional experience with experience of journalism and/or communications is essential.
