Field of activity
Energising Development (EnDev) is an energy access partnership programme financed by six donors - Germany, the Netherlands, Norway, Australia, the United Kingdom and Switzerland. EnDev aims to improve access to modern energy services for poorer households, social infrastructure and small businesses in a sustainable way. EnDev Malawi is one of 24 country projects of the global EnDev programme. In Malawi, EnDev in cooperation with private sector and civil society organisations supports the market-based dissemination of improved cookstoves in urban and peri-urban areas. In addition, the project advises the "National Cookstove Taskforce" chaired by the Ministry of Energy in achieving its goal of promoting two million energy-efficient cookstoves until 2020. These activities in the field of cooking energy are complemented by a national marketing campaign for picoPV products.
Your tasks
The focus of your work will be advising the "National Cookstove Taskforce" (NCT). This includes the following aspects:
Further, you will manage and coordinate EnDev Malawi's various project components in the areas of improved cookstoves and picoPV. These are implemented by local and international NGOs. You will support NGO partner in the design and implementation of monitoring systems in line with EnDev standards. You will consolidate their reports as the EnDev Malawi contribution to the EnDev's global reports. You will further advise NGO partners in the implementation of activities and ensure their integration into the knowledge management of EnDev. In coordination with the GIZ Country Office, you will represent EnDev Malawi in donor coordination and external communication.
Your profile
Based on a Master's degree in Economics, Business Administration, Engineering Management or Economic Geography you have gained working experience in the field of energy access. You are familiar with the current approaches for market based dissemination of improved cookstoves and picoPV as well as strategies for monitoring such interventions. You can weight pros and cons of carbon markets as a financing option. Familiarity with processes, methods and approaches of GIZ - or ideally the specifics of the "Energising Development" programme would be an asset. You are a highly motivated result-oriented personality. You like to assume responsibility and embrace challenging tasks. You have strong social and communicative skills and your ideas inspire enthusiasm of your counterparts. In discussions, you successfully facilitate between diverging positions. In past assignments abroad - ideally in the Southern African region -- you have proven your ability to work in an intercultural context. Proficiency in English is a requirement. Very good knowledge of German would be an extra asset.

Information on place of assignment
The position will entail occasional travel within the country. Lilongwe is a quiet city with limited opportunities for leisure activities. Despite occasional incidents, the security situation is better than the regional average. Basic medical care is available in Lilongwe, including access to common basic medication (with occasional shortages). International schools are available in Lilongwe for children of school age.
