PATH’s work in Mozambique focuses on improving the health, nutrition, and development of the youngest vulnerable children 0–3 years and their caregivers. We build the capacity of both governmental and nongovernmental partners to ensure that children and their caregivers receive a holistic package of services. We are currently working in three districts of Maputo Province and are planning on rapid expansion/scale-up in remaining districts of the province and in other provinces of Mozambique. PATH is looking for a Communications & Program Associate to primarily provide support to the increasing communication needs of the PATH Mozambique program but to also assist with programmatic and administrative tasks of the team during this exciting phase of scaling up our work in the country.
Specific responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to the following.
Communications tasks:
- Coordinate and ensure systematic documentation of project activities by taking photos, documenting case studies and success stories and other field-related documents.
- Coordinate and assist on the design, production, writing, and editing of PATH Mozambique communication deliverables, such as newsletters, brochures, posters, banners, roll-ups, project summaries, presentations and reports.
- Assist with the production and design of other PATH program communication deliverables such as videos.
- Ensure management and regular update of adequate digital and physical filing systems for all communications-related documents and deliverables, including photos, videos, documents, reports, and other project materials.
- Ensure management, adequate filing system, and organization of PATH Mozambique library and publications database
- Ensure that all PATH communication deliverables are proofread and aligned with PATH internal policies and procedures.
- Write meeting minutes and project letters and e-mails, both in Portuguese and English
- Assist program staff with simple translations from English to Portuguese and vice versa when requested
- Monitor office correspondence via the in and out log book.
Administrative tasks:
- Coordinate travel (both domestic and international) arrangements of office staff, visitors, and participants of trainings or workshops—including writing invitation letters, booking hotel accommodation, making flight reservations, and arranging airport pick-ups/drop-offs.
- Assist with processing pre- and post-travel paperwork and ensuring adherence to PATH travel policies.
- Coordinate the logistics of trainings, meetings, and other project events—e.g., event planning, budgeting, procuring and securing venues, procurement of supplies and materials, catering, provision of per diem allowances to participants, and arranging transportation.
- Provide day-to-day administrative support when needed—including scheduling meetings, preparing meeting agendas, compiling and organizing relevant background materials for meetings, responding to emails and telephone calls, receiving visitors to the office, and monitoring follow-up activities.
- Support PATH staff with the preparation of administrative documents including purchase request forms, and reimbursement forms.
- Provide other programmatic and administrative support, as requested by office staff.
- Demonstrable professional experience on design, production, writing and editing of communication deliverables, such as newsletters, brochures, posters, project summaries, presentations and reports
- Excellent computer skills using Microsoft Office, including Publisher. Knowledge and experience on utilization of other graphic and editing software such as Corel Draw or Photoshop is an advantage.
- Excellent verbal and written Portuguese communications skills—including skills in editing and proofreading documents.
- Demonstrated ability to coordinate activities for complex projects having multiple activities and involving a variety of internal and external stakeholders.
- Demonstrated ability to coordinate the logistics of trainings and other events.
- Ability to plan, organize, and handle tasks and changing priorities and prioritize work and meet deadlines within a flexible, fast-paced environment with multiple and competing demands.
- Excellent interpersonal and negotiation skills with a demonstrated capacity to solve problems with energy, flexibility, attention to detail, and a positive attitude.
- Ability to work in team situation with minimum supervision.
- Fluency in English—written and oral
- Basic understanding of issues related to health, maternal and child health, nutrition, and development is an advantage.
- Willingness to learn a variety of programmatic and administrative skills on the job.
Bachelor’s degree in Journalism or Communications-related field,Minimum four years of demonstrable professional experience working in a communications position—preferably in a major international nongovernmental organization or agency, demonstrable professional experience in providing administrative and programmatic support to large organizations with multiple projects, experience working in a cross-cultural/cross-country setting is a plus.
