One Community is a 5-year USAID”funded Project focused on building HIV-competent communities, families, and individuals. One Community will empower Priority Populations with the knowledge, efficacy, and skills to effectively utilize Hiv and social services while at the same time strengthening community HIV support and prevention responses. This multi-level approach will create positive aspirations and future opportunities for those most affected by HIV. The overall outcome will be reduced incidence of new infections and improved clinical, social and economic outcomes among orphans and vulnerable children, adolescents living with HIV, people living with HIV, and other vulnerable populations in communities served by priority treatment sites in eight project districts.
One Community is implemented by Hopkins Center for Communication Programs (CCP) with partners Plan International and Project HOPE.

One Community is currently hiring for the following position:

IT Officer

Location: Blantyre, Malawi
The IT Officer will provide IT support for both hardware and software, maintain computer and tablet systems and networks, install and configure computer systems, diagnose hardware/software faults and solve technical and application problems, over the phone and/or in person. In addition, this person will be responsible for trouble-shooting and overseeing the deployment and maintenance of Android-based tablets being used for OC’s mobile referral system in 7 districts in the Southern region of Malawi.
Reports to: Finance and Administrative Director
Specific Responsibilities
  • Provide technical troubleshooting for PC Hardware /Software /tablet /lnternet /Network problems
  • Enforce all IT policies, and standards
  • Monitor and manage LAN, WAN and other systems
  • Perform system data backup on the server
  • Supporting department operations systems e.g. accounts, finance, administration and data processing when required
  • Lead the provision of IT support to knowledge-sharing and program monitoring activities and systems including the mobile referral system and additional electronic data collection activities.
  • Collaborate with mobile referral system developer to implement and update mobile referral system
  • Provide technical support for tablets and additional hardware and software issues in the OC district offices and among community health workers
  • System updates administration by adding, removing user in the system
  • Liaise with IT suppliers for procurement and maintenance of hardware and software
  • Provide Computer Training to staff as needed
  • Manage system security/maintain antivirus software
  • System administration and maintenance.
  • Troubleshooting system and network problems and diagnosing and solving hardware/software faults
  • Setting up new users’ accounts and profiles and dealing with password issues
  • Conduct electrical safety checks on computer equipment
  • Provide administrative support to ensure that IT operations are maintained in an effective, up to date and accurate manner
  • Coordinate repairs to office IT equipment
  • Other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Team player, able to multi-task and manage time well
  • Ability to use required computer technologies at expert level.
  • Proficient in computer skills (Microsoft Office Suite, Macintosh OS)
  • Knowledge of networks required
  • Some understanding of HIV prevention and treatment
  • Fluent in English, both written and spoken, excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Professional and friendly personality
  • Quick learner who focuses on high productivity and results
  • Familiarity with Android operating systems and tablets.
Minimum Qualifications
  • At least a Diploma in IT or related field.
  • At least 2-3 years related work experience providing IT support in an office environment, preferably supporting health or development projects.
  • Experience supporting mobile data collection preferred.
