The African Union, established as a unique Pan African continental body, is charged with spearheading Africa's rapid integration and sustainable development by promoting unity, Solidarity, cohesion and cooperation among the peoples of African and African States as well as developing a new partnership worldwide. Its Headquarters is located in Addis Ababa, capital city of Ethiopia.
In seeking to achieve these objectives the African Union intends to strengthen its capacity to deliver by, among others, the implementation of new organization structure and the filling of vacant posts.
The Commission of the African Union invites applicants who are citizens of Member States for the post of Head Coordination and Outreach Division.

2. Major duties and responsibilities:
Reporting to the Director of Women, Gender and Development, the incumbent will provide strategic advice and policy guidance in support of the Directorate work in the area of Coordination and outreach. The incumbent will undertake the following duties and responsibilities:
a. Ensure overall management of the Coordination and Outreach Division; b. Through the Director develop effective advocacy strategies in the

Directorate of Gender and liaise with other Departments of the Commission;
c. Through the Director undertake advocacy activities to mainstream gender and promote women's empowerment in all organs of the AU, Member States;
  1. Produce and maintain WGDD advocacy materials for AU website on African Women and gender Issue
  2. Through the Director ensure outreach and interaction on gender issues with Member States, national gender machineries, CSOs, academic and research institutions, African Women's Networks, Regional and International intergovernmental organizations
  3. Produce jointly with other Divisions in WGDD periodic reports on the Status of African Women and Progress towards gender equality in African
  4. Through the Director undertake resource mobilization for outreach and coordination activities
  5. Provides leadership in the Popularization of AU instruments on gender and women's empowerment
  6. Build good working relations with other Divisions of the Directorate;
  7. Through the Director, develop and maintain appropriate working relations with partners
    of the African Union in the area of gender
  8. Support the common positions and consensus on gender and women's empowerment in
    Africa as part of WGDD
  9. Draft documents, speeches, presentation and technical paper related to gender and
    women's issues
  10. Conduct research in gender and women issues in the relevant areas of the Division;
  11. Produce and submit reports of the Division;
  12. Through the Director WGDD advocate and lobbing for gender and women's
    empowerment
  13. Maintain a network with regional and international organizations. CSOs, the private
    sector on behalf of the Directorate
  14. Jointly with other WGDD Divisions popularize AU instruments on gender and women's
    empowerment
  15. Provide technical support to the African Union Women's Committee
  16. Coordinate the development, production and dissemination of information and
    publications of the SDGEA
  17. Develop and maintain appropriate working relations with Communication and
    Conference Services Division
  18. Perform any other duties as may be assigned
  19. Through the Director remind Member States their annual reporting obligations and
    prepare Chairperson's annual report on SDGEA as well as coordinate the synthesis of
    Member States reports
  20. Through the Director, Convene the annual meeting of AUWC
3. QUALIFICATIONS AND WORK EXPERIENCE
Excellent writing, drafting and analysis skills;
Candidate must have at least a Master's University Degree in Social Sciences, or Communication, or Policy Studies, or Law, or Development Studies.

Candidate must have at least (10) years of progressively relevant experience, of which at least (3) years should be in senior management position in the field of gender and development, Communication, social Sciences, Law among others. Previous experience at national, regional and / or international level, and broad of in- depth knowledge of gender issues especially in the field of advocacy, coordination and outreach are added advantages.
4. Languagerequirement:
Proficiency in English or French languages. Knowledge of one or several other working language(s) would be an added advantage
5. TenureofAppointment:
The appointment will be made on a fixed term contract for a period of three (3) years, of with the first twelve months will be considered as a probationary period. Thereafter, the contract will be for a period of two years renewable, subject to satisfactory performance and deliverables.

8. Remuneration: Indicative basic salary of 47,829.00 per annum plus other related entitlements e.g. Post adjustment (46% of basic salary), Housing allowance 16,819.20 per annual), education allowance (75% of tuition and other education related expenses for every eligible dependent (21 years) up to a maximum of US$7,800.00 per child per annum), etc for internationally recruited staff of the Commission.
