Teacher of English for Academic Purposes (EAP)

Imperial College London -English Language Support Unit, School of Professional Development

Fixed term: 3 February 2014 – 26 September 2014
Salary: £35,420 pro-rata per annum
South Kensington Campus
The English Language Support Unit (ELSU) at Imperial College London is seeking to appoint a full-time fixed term Teacher of English for Academic Purposes (EAP) to work on In-sessional courses and continue to our 2014 summer Pre-sessional course. (Part-time applicants may also be considered).
This is an exciting opportunity for a well-qualified and experienced teacher to join a small team who work across the College to support and enhance the academic language and literacy skills of EU and international postgraduate students in a Science Technology Engineering and Medicine (STEM) context.  The post holder will contribute mainly to the delivery of the ELSU's In-sessional provision for PhD students, which comprises teaching academic research writing and grammar for writing classes, providing regular one-to-one support, and grading College language assessments.  The post holder will also contribute to other EAP teaching provision as required and join the Pre-sessional teaching team in July.
In-sessional teaching takes place mainly in the late afternoons and/or early evenings.
A postgraduate qualification in Applied Linguistics/TESOL/EAP or other relevant area is essential, and a recognised ELT/EAP teaching qualification (DELTA/PGCE TESOL or equivalent) is desirable.
Exceptional candidates with an MSc in a relevant science, technology or medical discipline with at least a CELTA plus two years’ EAP teaching experience will also be considered.
Successful candidates should have proven ELT and EAP/ESP experience in a higher education setting.  Experience of teaching both academic writing and postgraduate STEM students is preferred.
We are also keen to hear from applicants with additional expertise in one of the following: language test development, working with international academic staff and e-learning.
