Description
Bioversity International announces the 2014 Vavilov-Frankel Fellowship (VFF) for research on grain species relevant to both Australia and the applicant's home country. The fellowship, up to US$ 20,000 for a research project of up to 12 months duration, is supported by the Grains Research and Development Corporation (GRDC), Australia.

Research may be carried out at an Australian research institute or at an international agricultural research center such as the International Maize and Wheat Improvement Center (CIMMYT), the International Rice Research Institute (IRRI), the International Center for Agricultural Research in the Dry Areas (ICARDA) or the International Crop Research Institute for the Semi-Arid Tropics (ICRISAT) (members of CGIAR Consortium) if the benefit of the research to Australia can be clearly demonstrated, and meet at least one of the following four additional GRDC criteria:
Target a species that is a priority for both Australia and the home country Target an alternative, neglected and underutilized species with either environmental or economic potential for Australia Work on any of the following specific crops: wheat, barley, oats, sorghum, cereal rye, triticale, maize, canary seed, millets/panicum, canola, linseed, safflower, soybeans, sunflowers, chickpeas, cowpeas, fababeans, field peas, lentils, lupins, mung beans, peanuts, pigeon peas and vetch. Use biotechnology in support of efficient use of plant genetic resources. In addition, the topic of the research should be aligned with Bioversity's research portfolio Multi-disciplinary research is particularly encouraged. The fellowship may cover equipment, bench fees, supplies, travel, stipend/subsistence for living expenses, literature and documentation, and other relevant research costs. The Fellowship can be held concurrently with other sources of support, provided that the specific contribution of the VFF is made clear.

Applicants eligible for this call should:
Be national of a country of low or medium human development according to the Human Development Index Be no more than 35 years of age at the time of application. Hold at least a Master's degree (or equivalent) in a relevant subject area.
