Poverty is an outrage against humanity. It robs people of dignity, freedom and hope, of power over their own lives. Christian Aid has a vision – an end to poverty – and we believe that vision can become a reality. We are striving to bring lasting change to the lives of the poorest communities. We work wherever there is great need, helping people to find their own solutions to the problems they face, irrespective of their religion, caste or creed. If you’re passionate about positive change across the world, then this job might be for you.
The Enhancing Community Resilience Programme (ECRP) aims to increase communities’ resilience to climate change in Malawi. This new programme aims to enable households to build resilient livelihoods that are sustainable and profitable, incorporating natural resource management and risk reduction, increasing adaptive capacity and enabling vulnerable households to have a voice in decisions affecting them. The programme is being implemented in seven districts in central and southern Malawi by a consortium led by Christian Aid. Consortium members include CARE, Action Aid, technical resource partners and a number of local implementing partners. ECRP is funded by the UK’s Department for International Development, Irish Aid and the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The Manager for DRR will work across the consortium to lead the effective and efficient implementation of Disaster Risk Reduction and Climate Change interventions. This role leads on donor and inter-consortium reporting, which involves working closely with a range of partners. This role also ensures that case studies and programmatic evidence inform advocacy work.
Candidates for this job should have a Master’s degree in Disaster Management or Natural Resource Management, Development Studies or related fields/disciplines. Knowledge of climate change mitigation and adaptation measures in the Malawian context is essential. Candidates must also have highly effective organisational skills and the ability to quickly establish and work with complex systems and procedures. Those with extensive experience in conservation agriculture will be preferred. An ability to work to deadlines, under pressure and with multiple priorities is essential for this post. Candidates must also have hands-on experience of participatory methodologies including vulnerability and capacity assessments and of working with multiple stakeholders across different geographical locations.
