This position is located in the Communications and Engagement unit, Organizational Change Management team of Umoja in the Department of Management in New York. The Intern reports to the designated Officer.
The Department of Management/Umoja internships are for two months with an opportunity for extension, pending on the needs of the Office. The internships are UNPAID and full-time. Interns work five days per week (35 hours) under the supervision of a staff member in the department or office to which they are assigned.
Responsibilities
Within delegated authority the Communications Team intern will be responsible for:
- Developing, drafting, revising and updating content on Umoja website, iSeek pages and social media.
- Developing Communications team contributions to the Umoja Deployment Guidelines, Communications Materials, Staff Resources, Informational Content, etc.
- Assisting in designing and emailing the monthly Umoja newsletter.
- Researching, compiling and presenting information for use in the preparation and production of communications products/services for external audiences and internal staff orientated materials.
- Managing, updating and further developing internal databases; updating web site, including drafting and editing content; assisting in design, development and maintenance of Internet applications; generating a variety of standard and non-standard statistical and other reports from various databases.
The following experience/skills/knowledge will be needed in order to carrry out the responsibilities described above:
Excellent writing and editing skills;
Proficiency in MS Office, Photoshop, Dreamweaver and other multimedia software is highly desirable (please list in your PHP).

Education
- Applicants must be enrolled in a degree programme in a graduate school (second level university degree or higher); or if pursuing their studies in countries where higher education is not divided into undegraduate and graduate stages, have completed at least four years of full-time studies at a university or equivalent institution towards the completion of a degree.
- Have demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter; and
- Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.
Work Experience
- Applicants are not required to have professional work experience for participation in the programme.
Languages
- Fluency in English (both oral and written) is required.
- Knowledge of another UN official language is an advantage.
