The Mobile Money Accelerator Program (MMAP) is a two-and-a-half-year associate award (October 2012 – May 2015) under the USAID funded FIELD-Support cooperative agreement. MMAP seeks to increase mobile money adoption in Malawi and enhance product development through collaborative, targeted interventions that demonstrate the advantages of mobile money.

Specifically, the main responsibilities of Project Manager will be to:
Problem Solving and Impact:
The Project Manager will travel to the Malawi office to work in concert with the Home Office staff to review and improve internal operating systems of the MMAP field offices. S/he will ensure that FHI 360’s operating policies and procedures are according to the highest standards of internal controls and are administratively efficient and cost effective. Successful execution of this assignment can be seen in the following results:
- Facilitate field planning & communication. Work with local team to develop internal plans for awarding grants, processing key transactions and ensuring compliant activities.
- Review plans & coach staff to mitigate issues – Review open issues, monthly closings (imprest), grant, activity and transactional plans and coach staff to make necessary compliance corrections.
- Proactively communicate & advise on better practices – Maintain HQ informed of project issues and mitigation plans (programmatic, operational, compliance) and advise on lessons to better support country-centered delivery.
- PLANNING
- Provide overall guidance and monitoring for field project staff on ensuring clarity over project plans and priorities and encouraging effective team work.
- Build project staff capacity to coordinate and manage implementation of project activities, delivering quality and accountability.
- Build tools to project grants plans and key transactional plans
- Develop and deliver tools to communicate project plans (grant plans, key transactions processes, documents, and budgets) to support management and staff.
- REVIEW/COACHING
- Identify and resolve project issues and implement improvement plans to ensure project stays on schedule and within budget.
- Coach, mentor, and manage project team to ensure quality, efficiency and compliance with project and company standards/policies.
- Work with the Chief of Party to build, develop, and grow partnerships vital to the success of the project.
- Monitor key activity progress transactions and ensure USAID compliance proactively.
- Monitor and review monthly expenses (IMPREST) prior to submission to HQ for ensure initial real-time review.
- Monitor effective implementation of up to twenty grants
- COMMUNICATIONS & OTHER
- Develop effective program communication tools to share with wider circle of organizational stakeholders
- Capture lesson on how to effectively implement compliant projects in field
- Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree or its international equivalent in Communications, Economics, Public Policy, International Affairs or other relevant field required.
- Master’s degree preferred
- 5+ years of project management experience. Successful candidates typically have 10+ years of total experience.
- Excellent writing skills and the ability to write effectively for different audiences and on different platforms (i.e., email, formal reports and briefs, technical notes, etc.).
- Experience managing USAID-funded operations in field
- Knowledge and expertise of USAID rules and regulations
- Effectiveness working with and coaching teams to deliver excellence
- Fluency in English (speaking, reading, writing)
- Strong working proficiency in MS Office
After an initial orientation in Washington, DC, The project manager is expected to travel to Malawi and work from field office Malawi through May 15, 2015 (approximately 11 months). This is not an expatriate assignment; it is an extended field travel assignment. This position reports directly to the Project Director based in Washington, DC.
