PATH has recently received an award from the Conrad N. Hilton Foundation to implement the Scaling up Early Childhood Development (S-ECD) Project in Mozambique and Kenya. The three-year S-ECD Project (2014–2017) is designed to build on the successes and lessons learned from the Phase 1 of the Project (2012–2014), which has explored the feasibility of integrating early childhood development (ECD) into existing services delivered by government and nongovernmental service providers. In Mozambique, S-ECD will be implemented in all districts of Maputo Province and with the ambition of reaching other selected provinces through collaboration with other partners.
PATH is seeking a Child Health and Development Associate to work closely with stakeholders at Serviços Distritais de Saúde Mulher e Acção Social (district-level women and social action—SDSMAS), health facilities, APEs and other governmental and nongovernmental organizations in designated districts of Maputo Province to coordinate and support the implementation of training, mentoring, and supervising service providers at the facility- and community-level to integrate ECD into their service delivery. The Child Health and Development Associate will also interact with community members such as caregivers of children 0–3 years and community opinion leaders to ensure that the S-ECD Project is responsive to community needs. This position reports to PATH’s Child Health and Development Program Officer in Mozambique.
Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
- Support district-level advocacy for integrated ECD with SDMAS, health facilities, and community-based health stakeholders.
- Support specific and targeted training on integrated ECD to SDSMAS personnel, health facility professionals, APEs, and community health committees, among others. Assist in coordinating the logistics of trainings.
- Provide and promote supportive supervision, mentorship support, and on-the-job training to trained service providers, by strengthening existing supervision and training channels.
- Contribute to the development and adaptation of training packages, communication tools, job aids, and assessment tools.
- Participate in planning and review meetings of the SDSMAS and other district partners to monitor and support the integration of ECD into existing services.
- Work with community- and facility-based service providers to establish, equip and operationalize play corners in health facilities.
- Assist in creating and promoting the use of community-based videos on positive caregiving practices.
- Reinforce existing group-based activities (health talks, mother groups) with ECD messages and practices.
- Assist with qualitative and quantitative data collection on ECD integration and impact, at provider and district level.
- Document project activities by taking photos, taking videos, conducting interviews, and collecting human interest stories.
- Provide other technical inputs to the project, as requested by the PATH Child Health and Development Program Officer.

Medium level certificate in maternal and child health, preventive medicine, or nutrition, or basic level/secondary school certificate with extensive demonstrable professional experience in community health promotion,at least five years of experience providing technical assistance (training, supervision, data collection) to projects working on relevant areas such as maternal and child health, nutrition, HIV, and child development,strong experience working with SDSMAS officials and with health facilities,experience working at the community level with APEs, community health committees, CBOs, and caregivers of young children,ability to ride a motorcycle (motorcycle will be means of transport for some field activities)
You must currently have legal authorization to work in Mozambique.
