Country Director - Jesuit Refugee Service

The Country Director will provide direction of JRS works in Malawi. The person will report directly to the JRS Southern Africa Regional Director and will be based in Lilongwe with travel to Dzaleka Camp, Dowa District.
This position encompasses responsibilities such as the exploration of new needs of refugees in the country, the development and implementation of global project proposals, administration of JRS country finances, staff recruitment, management and care, and the maintenance of relations with the local Church, the Society of Jesus, government, and international organizations.
Qualifications and experience
  • Tertiary education in forced migration, international relations or related discipline
  • Minimum of five years working experience in project management, preferably with a human rights or development organization
  • Demonstrated evidence of leadership in a professional setting with ability to problem solve, delegate and think strategically
  • Proven performance in management of budgets
  • Demonstrated experience in preparation and writing of formal reports
  • Ability to build the capacity of staff as well as to develop teams
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English; Ability to communicate in French and/or Swahili desirable.
  • Demonstrated ability to work under pressure and tight deadlines
  • Demonstrable experience of, and capacity for, working collaboratively as part of a team
