The United Nations Office at Nairobi (UNON) is the UN headquarters in Africa and the representative office of the Secretary-General. We support programme implementation of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and the UN Human Settlements Programme (UNHABITAT) globally, as well as other UN offices in Kenya, by Providing administrative, conference and information services (www.unon.org). This post is located in UNON/Office of Director-General at the Nairobi duty station. Under the supervision of the Director-General of UNON and overall guidance of the Director and Deputy Director of Africa 1 Division/Department of Political Affairs (DPA), the incumbent will review and monitor activities in the Great Lakes region with particular emphasis on East Africa; Strengthen in this regard, cooperation with sub-regional organizations in East Africa, particularly in the area of peace and security.
Education
Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in political science, international relations, law, disarmament, security, development management, conflict resolution or related area. A first-level university degree in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
Work Experience
A minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in political science, international relations, law, disarmament, security, development management, conflict resolution or related field. Experience on issues and challenges affecting East Africa or Horn of Africa, or the Great Lakes region required.
