Deputy Chief of Party in Zomba, Malawi

FHI 360 is seeking qualified candidates for the Girls Empowerment through Education and Health Activity (ASPIRE), pending award. The expected duration is four years. Recruitment is contingent upon successful award of the project.
Project Description:
The ASPIRE project will improve reading skills for girls in upper primary school so they have the foundation for reading to be able to succeed in secondary school. It also integrates components of improved health seeking behaviors; Water, Sanitation and Hygiene practices (WASH); and improved social and cultural norms.
The Deputy Chief of Party will support the Chief of Party in providing overall technical and management support to ensure that projects are effectively and efficiently implemented. The DCOP will provide thought leadership and management to integrate components of youth friendly sexual and reproductive health programming and ensure that the project receives the necessary technical support to deliver high quality and timely results.
Additional Responsibilities:
  • Collaborate with Chief of Party to provide leadership to the program, ensure strategic program direction, and provide high quality technical assistance
  • Mobilize institutional and project resources, tools, best practices, innovations, technology to deliver a synergistic, evidence based program with specific emphasis on integration of youth friendly sexual and reproductive health programming
  • Liaise with key partners and stakeholders to meet program objectives and deliver results
  • Collaborate with technical staff to ensure program activities are designed and implemented according to industry best practices while being tailored to the local context
  • Work closely the team to develop annual workplans, quarterly and semi-annual reports, PMP and other reports
  • Provide leadership to ensure the development of timely, high quality and regulation compliant reporting per FHI 360 and donor guidelines
Qualifications:
  • A Master’s degree or higher in one of the following fields: public health, health policy or other related field is required
  • At least 7 years of demonstrated technical expertise, with substantial developing country context experience preferably in the Sub-Saharan Africa region, in a combination of the following technical areas: youth friendly HIV/AIDS/ sexual and reproductive health, OVC and gender
  • At least 5 years of demonstrated excellence in a management position, preferably in an international development context, including direct supervision of professional and support staff, quality evaluation of staff performance and deliverables, and contract/grant management is preferred
  • Experience supervising and leading teams and monitoring staff performance is required
  • Experience integrating gender into development programming is preferred
  • Experience with life skills programs utilizing participatory methodologies is required
  • Experience in strategic behavior change communication approaches is required
  • Strong communication and coordination skills is preferred
  • Demonstrated experience in managing projects or components of projects which include youth friendly HIV and sexual and reproductive health is preferred
  • Demonstrated excellent interpersonal skills and ability to motivate staff to be accountable for project outcomes are preferred
  • Demonstrated organizational skills and strong track record in meeting deliverables
  • Experience interacting with government agencies, host‐country government partners and counterparts, and international donor agencies is preferred
