Climate Change Expert – Global Climate Change Alliance Support Facility

Objectives of the role:
The EU intends to support a second phase of the Global Climate Change Alliance (GCCA) initiative, GCCA+. The GCCA+ Support Facility will support the GCCA+ as a platform for dialogue and exchange of experience between the EU and developing countries on climate policy and on practical approaches to integrate climate change into development policies and budgets; support the provision of technical and financial support to poor developing countries most vulnerable to climate change with a focus on least developed countries (LDCs) and small islands developing States (SIDS); support the knowledge creation and dissemination and communication efforts of the GCCA+.
The Climate Change Expert will be based in Brussels. He/she will be responsible for supporting the delivery of a range of activities including regional conferences, training workshops, programme identification and formulation technical assistance and communication and knowledge management.
Length of the project: 36 months
Start Date: January 2015
Qualifications and Skills:
  • Fluency in written and spoken English or French, with good knowledge of the other
  • University Degree in a relevant subject (natural resources, environment, climate change etc.)
General Professional Experience:
  • Strong track record in managing consultancy work in the area of climate, environment and natural resources
  • Proven ability in participatory and consultative processes
  • Solid experience with the UN Climate Change Convention, the Kyoto Protocol and the policy context in which the Global Climate Change Alliance is to be launched
  • Good understanding of EU development assistance; EC and EU Member States financing mechanisms for development and financial regulations governing their budgets
Specific Professional Experience:
  • 10 years of experience in the fields of climate, environmental and natural resources management
  • Experience of working in regions that are relevant to the GCCA, particularly Small Island Developing States (SIDS) and Least Developed Countries (LDC)
