PSI seeks entrepreneurial, dynamic candidates with an interest in private sector approaches to development for the position of Country Representative for PSI’s South Africa platform, the Society for Family Health (SFH ). SFH is a social marketing organization and local non-profit organization in South Africa, with thirteen regional offices across the country and over 200 staff members.
The Country Representative position is located in Johannesburg, South Africa, and reports to the Vice President – Southern Africa Region in Washington, D.C. PSI is highly decentralized, requiring considerable autonomy and initiative from its Country Representatives.
RESPONSIBILITIES: The Country Representative will be responsible for the overall development, management (financial, administrative, and programmatic), and representation of Society for Family Health - South Africa. This includes, but is not limited to:
  • Leading strategic planning as well as overall institutional development and systems strengthening;
  • Management of external relations with the Government of South Africa and with current donors (e.g. PEPFAR, through CDC, and the Royal Netherlands Embassy in Pretoria), as well as potential new donors, governments, international and local NGOs, and commercial entities;
  • Recruitment, orientation, mentoring, supervision, and performance management of a qualified senior team and development of capacity building initiatives to increase the skills and output of the staff
  • Development and implementation of marketing and communication campaigns and other social marketing activities;
  • Responsibility over SFH’s program budget (currently about $12m/year)
  • Oversight of internal controls and accountability mechanisms, to include local registration and audit requirements;
  • Financial and other reporting as required by donors and PSI/Washington;
  • Development and enforcement of field office administrative policies;
  • Leadership of all fundraising activity, including decision making on new investments, proposal development, partnership formation and budgeting;
  • Collaborate closely with the SFH’s Board of Directors.![]
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Significant general management experience, with a technical background in HIV/AIDS, public health, external relations, or marketing a plus
  • At least five years work experience in a developing country;
  • Relevant post-graduate degree (MBA, MIA, MPH, etc.) or equivalent experience;
  • Demonstrated ability to attract, motivate, and retain high performing staff
  • Established track record of maintaining a dynamic, positive work environment
  • Dedication to staff development
  • Knowledge of international development and health issues;
  • Familiarity with PEPFAR and the international donor community;
  • Fluency in English
The successful candidate will be a creative, innovative and strategic thinker, and will have: excellent communication, analytical, organizational, interpersonal and cross-cultural skills; a strong interest in private sector approaches to development; and proven ability to produce results. Preference will be given to candidates with demonstrated fund raising ability and having worked successfully with national governments.
