ABOUT THE JOB:
WWB is seeking a Consultant Resident Advisor - SME Credit in Malawi. The consultant will be responsible to providing on-site, proactive support to organization's partner bank in the implementation of a credit product for the SME segment with a focus on women.
Tasks and Responsibilities:
- Serve as representative of the organization's project manager, serve as liaison for other technical staff and consultants, and possibly the funder. Support public relations initiatives related to the project such as press release for the product launch;
- Maintain excellent professional relationships with the bank’s management and project team as well as other staff;
- Participate as part of a cross-functional team for organization-led technical assistance project components, these include customer and demand research, business case development, product design, pilot planning, launch and roll out, design of a business and marketing strategy, reporting on performance indicators, preparation of training materials, and conducting training sessions for loan officers and middle managers;
- Advise organization's partner bank on specific areas, which may include:
- Integrate new credit product with the bank’s current credit policy and procedures;
- Train loan officers and middle managers;
- Coordinate with the bank’s IT unit on management information needs;
- Implement performance management and monitoring tools for different levels of the bank;
- Monitor and visit branches to ensure improved pilot implementation and subsequent product roll-out;
- Mentor the SME manager (position pending).
- Support the partner bank in meeting project milestones and achieving key performance targets on time;
- Participate in regular update calls, and submit regular project reports.
Qualifications:
- Professional experience of a minimum of 7 years in a retail bank or major MFI, with expertise in cash-flow based assessment and SME lending;
- Track record of implementing SME lending approach as a manager and/or consultant;
- Expertise and experience in training middle managers and field staff on cash-flow based assessment and SME lending;
- Experience in lending to the women’s market, experience with applying technology and risk models to improve productivity/efficiency, and familiarity with credit plus approaches to developing entrepreneurship preferred;
- Work experience in developing countries, experience in Africa preferred;
- Proven project planning and management experience especially with meeting deadlines;
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively in multi-cultural and multi-disciplinary teams;
- Capacity and willingness to travel in country and do field work;
- Strong interpersonal, analytical, problem-solving, and writing skills;
- Fluency in English required;
- Ability to manage expenses on a reimbursable basis required.
