Corporate Relations Manager SAEM (Mozambique) and Angola

PURPOSE
Our Corporate Relations strategy prioritises activities in terms of direct business value and value to society: 

 Public Policy (including tax) and Alcohol in Society will be our priorities, with communications and corporate brand playing a critical enabling role in communicating Diageo’s broader positive economic and social contribution 
 Four global CR ‘centres of excellence’ – Policy and Public Affairs, Sustainable Development, Communications and Brand Diageo will be created 
The Corporate Relations Manager (CRM) will partner with the business management, 3rd party/JV partners, Diageo Centres of Excellence (CoE) contributing to the development and achievement of our performance ambition. 

QUALIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
At least 8 years relevant experience, preferably in a similar role in industry, FMCG, or in consultancy. Drinks industry experience would be an advantage but it is not essential.

 

  • Strong leadership and influencing skills: in particular the ability to
    • Influence and to build ‘effective’ relationships with others, in order to deliver the CR strategy across cultures
    • Work both with internal and external stakeholders at different levels of seniority.
    • Good listener, but also hold his/her ground in senior context where appropriate
  • A combination of strategic capabilities and a very strong operational track record
    • A strategic and analytical approach to problem solving and the ability to build coherent and credible arguments to support corporate positions and policies
  • Proven CR functional capabilities (particularly in-depth experience in the areas of public policy and CSR)
  • The ability to operate in dynamic and complex environments, combining in-depth CR expertise and an understanding of the commercial environment
  • Excellent communication skills and influencing skills
  • An understanding and experience of the cultural sensitivities of markets that are otherwise “complex” given different cultural outlooks.
  • Experience in Diageo or a highly regulated industry is an advantage.
  • Experience of delivering credible and sustainable CSR is an advantage
  • Experience in hands-on, live crisis management is an advantage
  • In depth knowledge of the Diageo Code of Business Conduct (CoBC) and ability to coach / provide guidance on the application thereof
  • English and Portuguese speaker is fundamental

ACCOUNTABILITIES

 

  1. Work with the Diageo Centres of Excellence (CoE) teams and local GM’s to deliver a highly focussed Corporate Relations strategy for key markets.

  1. Lead and coach the partner co/dist. Senior figures and/or CR heads to execute brilliantly the CR strategy. Identify and manage appropriate suppliers for local CR support and expertise

  1. Successfully engage and coach the GM’s and Exec, in proactively supporting the delivery of the CR strategy and in owning/driving relevant CR initiatives.
  1. Access and unlock regional-level opportunities, strategic relationships and resources and earn key stakeholder support and recognition for Diageo
  2. To seek to provide a fair and equal tax and regulatory landscape for the business
  3. Where appropriate and in agreement with the Diageo CoE ensure that the Angola SAEM businesses are properly aligned from a CR perspective, to access appropriate pan-African opportunities
  4. To enhance and protect the image, integrity and reputation of Diageo, including in times of crisis. Lead and maintain best practice standards in corporate relations consistent with our strategy, our values and Diageo’s COBC.
