  1. 1. WASH COORDINATOR
WASH Coordinator will lead the provision of technical assistance for Njira Project. In close partnership with the other technical leads, and working directly under Reproductive Maternal and Newborn Child Health (RMNCH) Advisor), the WASH Coordinator will be responsible for ensuring integration of WASH practices and approaches in Food and Nutrition security program. Functions include: To conduct in-depth water and WASH needs assessments of communities; review current practices and bottlenecks in collaboration with partners and develop detailed technical assistance plans to be implemented over the life of the project; Provide on-site technical assistance to partners and Government Line Ministries on rolling out Community -Led Total Sanitation(CLTS); Collaborate and liaise with partners, donor, and stakeholder representatives in all aspects of project planning, monitoring, and implementation for attainment of Open Defecation Status(ODF); Lead in the design and mobilization of resources for low cost sanitation facilities including ecosan and implementation of menstrual hygiene in schools and communities. Provide periodical reports on sanitation and hygiene promotion improvement including lessons learned including best practices and models for scaling-up. Facilitate linkages of the project to other WASH players, research institutions and work closely with Department of Water and Irrigation on water quality testing and Ministry of health on chlorination and treatment of water sources.
CANDIDATE Requirements
  • Minimum of Bachelor's degree, preferably with a Masters, in a field related to Nutrition/WASH.
  • Minimum of 5 years extensive experience in design, management, support, and monitoring and evaluation of community based Food and Nutrition Security programming and WASH in Malawi
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills in English and Chichewa
  • Willingness to travel extensively
