The Malawi Revenue Authority (MRA), an organization entrusted with the assessment, collection, and accounting for tax revenues for the Malawi Government is inviting applications from suitably qualified and interested persons to fill a vacant position of Legal Counsel in the Legal Division.
FUNCTIONS /KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Position : Legal Counsel
Location : Head Office (Blantyre)
Grade : D2
Reporting to : Director of Legal Services
•Reviewing cases referred to the Legal Department by other Departments and preparing opinions in accordance with the provisions of appropriate laws, best practices and procedures
•Preparing detailed briefs for cases referred to the Courts and the Special Arbitrator and the Special Referee
•Drafting contracts and any other agreements as may be assigned
•Assisting in the interpretation of legislation, regulations, rulings, directives etc. for the purpose of Taxpayer Education
•Representing the Authority in the Supreme Court, High Court and Court subordinates thereof:
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Applicants should have the following qualifications:
•Bachelor of Laws (Honours) Degree from a recognized university
•Admitted to practice Law in the Supreme Court of Malawi; High Court and Courts subordinate thereto and must be holders of a valid practice license
•Proven ability to prepare legal documents, and briefs
•A minimum of three years working experience in a busy environment
•Excellent command of written and spoken English.
Knowledge, skills, abilities and attributes:
•Very good knowledge and experience of Commercial Law, Labour Law, Contract Law, and Procurement Law.
•Very good knowledge of tax laws and tax systems in Malawi
•Good knowledge and experience of HR rules, policies and practices in accordance with the Malawi labour laws
•High degree of professional ethics and integrity

Position (1) : Administrative Assistant
Location : Border Stations
Grade : F1
Organisational Unit : Customs and Excise Division
FUNCTIONS /KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
1.Preparing monthly staff and administrative reports
2.Managing stationery and stores items
3.Providing general support to the entire station
4.Managing support staff such as messengers, drivers etc. at the station
5.Maintaining an orderly, complete and effective filling system of administrative record documents
6.Attending to visitors and external phone calls and generally handling general non-technical queries.
7.First aider of the station
8.Receiving, recording and distributing incoming mail
9.Screening requests for meetings or appointments and help in planning, organizing and managing station events.
10.Perform any other duties that may be assigned from time to time.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
•MSCE Certificate
•A Secretarial Diploma or its equivalent.
•Should be familiar with word processing, spreadsheet and presentation software.
•Should have not less than 5 years’ experience in a busy office

Position (2) : Front Office Assistants
Location : Border Stations
Grade : F3
Organisational Unit : Customs and Excise Division
FUNCTIONS /KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
•Act as the first contact point with clients requiring services at the station
•Managing and handling clients customs documentation at the front office, long room and the pigeon-hole system
•Manage/ handle internal telephone communication between clients and customs officers at the back office to ensure strict entry into restricted and confidential office areas at the station
•Facilitate interviews between clients and officers
•Guide and clarify to clients the technical services available at the station and refer clients to appropriate offices
•Support customs officers at the Long Room to ensure effective service delivery to clients
•Perform any other front office duties as may be assigned from time to time
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
•A good MSCE Certificate or equivalent
•Those with a Front Office or Marketing certificate will have an added advantage
•Should have not less than 3 years’ experience in a busy office
