Central Region Water Board is a statutory corporation legally mandated by the Waterworks Act No. 17 of 1995 to provide water and sanitation services in all towns and market centres in the central region except Lilongwe City.

Vacancy has arisen in the Technical Services Directorate which the Board would like to fill immediately.

Laboratory Technician (Grade CRWB7)
Key duties and responsibilities
  • Receives water spacemen from zones and schemes
  • Registers spacemen and names of sending zones or schemes
  • Processes spacemen and checks the results
  • Records results of the examined spacemen in relevant documentation
  • Reports results of the spacemen to Senior Quality Assurance and environment Officer for interpretation after writing up in the day book
  • General cleaning of laboratory room and equipment
  • Allocating and supervising the work of Laboratory Assistant
  • Any other duties relevant to the post of Laboratory Technician as may be assigned from time to time.
Job Title: Quality Assurance and Environment Officer (CRWB 4)

Reporting to : Quality Assurance and Environment Manager
Purpose, Roles and Responsibilities
Purpose of the job Provides guidance and Water Works quality control and technical backstopping; and enforces Board’s by-laws and standards for the design and implementation of water supply distribution activities
Key duties and responsibilities plans
  • Initiates the preparation of By-Laws, Quality Control and Customer Care enforcement and promotional programmes and ensuring their effective implementation by Board
  • Participates in supervising implementation of By-Laws, Quality Control and Customer Care programmes.
  • Carries out appraisal of all water systems including the domestic systems of new applicants to verify adherents design and standards
  • Promotes implementation of Board By- Laws, Sanitation standards and Customer Care policies and review of same
  • Conducts periodic water tests to verify treatment and hygiene standards adherence of the Board
  • Negotiates with Customers on connection, Bills and water supply matters affecting them
  • Compiles various Marketing and Commercial reports and information
  • Any other duties relevant to the post as may be assigned from time to time.
Job Title: Operations Engineer (Grade CRWB 4)

Reporting to: Operations Manager
Purpose of the job
Provide Technical support services to Board’s Plant and Water Works Operations
Key duties and responsibilities
  • Identifies operational problems by observing and studying water systems and plant operations functioning and performance results; investigating complaints and suggestions; interviewing process supervisors and operators; completing troubleshooting procedures.
  • Identifies operational priorities by assessing operational objectives; determining program objectives, such as, efficiency, cost savings, energy conservation, operator convenience, safety, environmental quality; estimating relevance, time, and costs.
  • Develops operational solutions by defining, studying, estimating, and screening alternative solutions; calculating economics; determining impact on total system
  • Anticipates operational problems by studying operating targets, modes of operation, unit limitations; monitoring unit performance.
  • Improves operational quality results by studying, evaluating, and recommending process re-design; implementing changes; contributing information and opinion to unit design and modification teams.
  • Provides operational management information by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing operating and engineering data and trends.
  • Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks; participating in professional organizations.
  • Accomplishes engineering and organization mission by sorting out technical problems related to the Board’s plants and water systems to improve water supply to customers.
  • Oversees technical activities of various professional people those who are junior to him/her working under Operations Division at zone and scheme level.
  • Conducts periodic water tests to verify treatment and hygiene standards adherence of the Board
  • Dialogue with Customers about customer services and water supply matters affecting them
  • Compiles various Marketing and Commercial reports and information
  • Prepares monthly work progress report for Board use
  • Attends various meetings with stakeholders to represent interests of the Board as required from time to time
  • Attends to complaints and queries related to matters of his/her Division.
  • Any other duties relevant for the post of Senior Engineer.
Minimum Qualification and experience
  • A Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil, Electrical or Mechanical Engineering plus at least 4 years at Engineer level. Those that have worked in the water industry will have an added advantage
