5. ASSISTANT LIBRARIAN - TRAINEE (READERS’ SERVICES) (1 POSITION)
Duties and responsibilities

1) Developing a library orientation programme for Pre-Med, First Year under and post-graduate students.
2) Teaching students in special subjects at the invitation of lecturers.
3) Providing of readers’ advisory services including reference works and preparation of subject lists for users.
4) Facilitating of user education for diverse levels or audiences within the academic community.
5) Providing general tours and/or presentations on the use of basic library tools.
6) Assisting users with basic research and bibliographic problems including electronic searches.
7) Supervising the membership application processes of prospective library users.
8) Daily monitoring of the procedures internal to lending of library materials, interlibrary loans, photocopying, scanning and binding, and instituting methods for their organization.
9) Preparation of statistics regarding use of library resources (hardcopy & electronic resources).
10) Daily supervision of shelving through shelf-reading.
11) Assigning duties and responsibilities to all categories of Library Assistants in the section and ensuring that they have mastered all processes and are always alert, helpful and knowledgeable.
12) Participating or assisting in collection development for a particular collection or subject area.
13) Acting as the Public Relations Officer for the College Library.
14) Liaising with colleagues in other sections to assure the realisation of Library goals.
15) Any other duties as may be assigned by the College Librarian from time to time.


Qualifications / Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Library and Information Science or Bachelor’s degree in any field from a recognized University.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (oral and written)
Aptitude for working with computers and other office equipment.
Provide quality services in a cost-effective manner and to recommend improved methods of performing the work
Ability to work under minimum supervision, use own initiative and with attention to detail.
