The Centre for Conflict Resolution (CCR) is an independent, non-governmental pan-African organisation, based in Cape Town, South Africa. Over the past 46 years, it has worked continentally to promote constructive, creative, and co-operative approaches to the resolution of conflicts and the reduction of violence. It has produced ground-breaking research on African security and governance issues, has conducted extensive capacity-building training, and facilitated and mediated peace processes across Africa.
CCR’s Policy Development and Research (PDR) project seeks to strengthen the capacity of key African institutions and actors working on peacebuilding issues. Towards this end, it provides intergovernmental organisations, continental and regional bodies, national governments, and civil society groups – both within and outside Africa – with policy-relevant, academically rigorous research that can help to achieve improved policies, governance, and peace on the continent.
CCR invites applications from suitable candidates to fill the following position:
RESEARCH ASSISTANT: POLICY DEVELOPMENT AND RESEARCH (PDR)
Key responsibilities:  To organise project meetings, seminars, public dialogues and workshops;  To provide administrative support for research projects;  To assist Senior Researchers and Researchers with their research and other projects; and  To assist in conducting CCR research.
Requirements:  A Masters degree in International Relations, African politics, Conflict Resolution, Social Sciences or in a related field;  At least two years work experience in the field of Social Sciences;  Experience in office administration and in organising and conducting seminars and conferences;  Excellent research and analytical skills;  Good verbal, written and presentation skills in English;  Knowledge of Social Sciences research, Peace Studies, International Relations, Political Studies and conflict resolution;  Attention to detail; and  Computer literacy, i.e. MS Office and internet.
Advantages:  Knowledge and experience of monitoring and evaluation.
This position involves national and international travel.
