Introduction
SNV Mozambique started its Renewable Energy programme in 2011 with a scoping study. Improved cookstoves and off-grid solar solutions were identified as options. In 2013 SNV started the Mozambique Improved Cooking Solutions (MICSI) project with ENDEV financing for 4 years. The aim is to sell 40.000 improved charcoal cookstoves in urban Maputo for low income households. With funding from SNV we started to experiment with alternative fuels for cooking such as LPG in smaller bottles for the BOP and charpowder briquettes made from coconut husks. The next steps in our programme are developing projects for these pilots, upscaling our programme to other urban areas, pilot rural firewood ICS and pilot solar lighting retail & distribution systems. Our approaches are market based solutions through developing Inclusive Business models with a variety of companies.
Purpose of the position
Lead the development of the SNV Renewable Energy (RE) programme in Mozambique, position SNV as leader of households focussed RE project development and implementation in Mozambique.
Main responsibilities:
Project Management (50%)
Responsible for MICSI implementation, project management (budget control, planning, quality control, PME, staff steering & management, narrative and financial reporting).
Responsible for management of the charpowder Briquette project.
Business Development (40%)
Develop concept notes and project proposals for upscaling of existing projects and approaches (Urban and rural ICS, briquettes, LPG gas).
Project development of new initiatives in solar household energy.
Project development of carbon credits funding.
Market intelligence for funding opportunities (including traditional donors, CSR funding through multinationals, Carbon credit funding sources).
Development of partnerships for BD and project implementation
Networking with donors, participation in the Energy Donor group.
Positioning and Communication (10%)
Responsible for knowledge development and systematization of our results and products.
Responsible for communication: events, products (website, articles, manuals/products, video), relationships with media and stakeholders.
Developing of LCB capacities and management.
Candidate profile
Education: Master’s in Business administration, Energy or Marketing
Desired: Renewable Energy specialisation, BOP marketing strategies, Carbon funding.
Experience and Skills:
Minimum 6 years work experience in RE development and/or BOP marketing.
Minimum 3 years of experience in project management (preferably of Renewable Energy projects, especially solar or ICS).
Experience in concept and proposal development, proven results in Business Development.
Experience in carbon funding development desired.
Knowledge of RE BOP strategies, market development and gender aspects in RE.
Other requirements:
Good external relationship builder, networker.
Ability to package and sell project results, products & methodologies.
Result oriented team leader.
Good reporting abilities both narrative and financial.
Portuguese or Spanish language ability highly desired.
Contract duration: 2 years
Desired start date: As soon as available
