About VSO
VSO is the world’s leading independent international development organisation that works through volunteers to fight poverty in developing countries. Our high-impact approach brings people together to share skills, build capabilities, promote international understanding and action to change lives and make the world a fairer place.

Role overview
The main task of the volunteer will be training the 156 Lead Girls who are already selected early on at the start of the project. The Lead Girls will be high achieving and have strong capacity (or show potential) and willing to support other girls to increase their learning (whether in or out of school). These girls obtain parents’ and school leaders permission to participate in peer education, life and vocational skills training after school hours and on weekends (standard practice based on feedback to ensure they are not removed from their classrooms). The Lead Girls will be trained in annual workshops thereafter to assess progress, and make improvements to curriculum and methodologies. The Lead Girls will together with teachers and local facilitators be trained on gender responsive teaching; support girls with peer education, life and vocational skills training. This will be conducted primarily through the girls’ clubs – there will be one club per school with an average of 50 girls per club. The clubs will also be supported on a quarterly basis by the trained teachers and volunteers. The Lead Girls will act as role models by also participating in advocacy efforts. Lead girls will also work together with teachers and representatives of Institute of Social Communication in the implementation of local advocacy through community radio.
