Position Summary
IREX seeks a Deputy Chief of Party for an anticipated USAID-funded project to strengthen the capacity of civil society organizations in Malawi. The Deputy Chief of Party will work in close collaboration with the Chief of Party to lead and manage the program, as well as provide direct technical expertise to partners.
The position is contingent on funding.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Assist in overall program management to ensure all objectives are met
  • Develop and maintain effective collaborations with program partners and key stakeholders
  • Interact regularly with civil society groups, opinion leaders, government officials, members of the international community and other program stakeholders.
  • Provide support to technical specialists to ensure overall planning objectives are met, including annual work plans and operating budgets
  • Oversee monitoring, evaluation and reporting of program activities
  • Manage and develop program staff and maintain close communications with IREX headquarters
  • Represent IREX and support its organizational development  
Qualifications
  • Master's degree in international development, public administration, management , political science, and/or another relevant field is preferred
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in civil society capacity development, citizen participation and/or related fields
  • A minimum of 4 years of experience in managing professional and administrative staff, preferably during implementation of multi-year donor-funded programs
  • Understanding of civil society sector in Malawi strongly preferred
  • Experience in coordinating with donor  and donor organizations, government officials, opinion leaders and media, preferably in Malawi
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate skills and experience to others effectively as a trainer or advisor
  • Demonstrated ability to facilitate dialogue and work constructively with a diverse range of actors and to accommodate divergent interests and agendas in a multi-cultural environment
  • Fluency in English is required
