Purpose of the job:
To promote exemplary policy solutions in in the fields of renewable energy, forests for people and food security. On climate and energy the WFC aims to facilitate access to renewable energy and the transformation of existing energy structures from the combustion of highly valuable fossil resources to renewable energy sources.

Role:
The Head of the Africa Liaison Office will be developing, coordinating and implementing the work programme in close collaboration with the Climate Energy Team at the WFC Head Office.
The Head of the Africa Liaison Office will be developing, coordinating and implementing the work programme in close collaboration with the Climate Energy Team at the WFC Head Office.
Main responsibilities:
- Coordinate and implement the Climate Energy work programme of the WFC in Africa in close collaboration with the Climate and Energy Team
- Represent the WFC in Africa
- Represent the WFC in the African Renewable Energy Alliance (AREA)
- Assist in identifying financial resources for the work programme and ensuring a reasonable accounting and administration of the Africa Liaison Office and WFC South Africa Trust
- Ensure effective outputs and activities that match with defined timelines/milestones and budget
- Monitor and assess progress and evaluate outcomes of the work programme
- Manage expenditure against campaign budgets
- Prepare, facilitate and follow up meetings and conference calls
- Coordinate research input for the WFC work programme
- Monitor international policy making as well as international negotiations
- Represent the WFC at UN institutions, African and international organisations and with policy makers
- Provide an effective interface between the above institutions and the WFC campaign
- Reach out to parliamentarians, civil society, scientific bodies, business and media
- Draft and edit WFC Position Papers and comments on specific issues related to campaign issues
- Develop and maintain the WFC image via various communication tools (publications, website, etc.)

Sound knowledge of the energy sector and of climate change issues, both on the African continent and globally. Commitment to environmental and social justice. Self-motivation and ability to work on own initiative. Ability to write clearly, concisely and to deadlines. Strong research and computer skills. Public speaking skills. Ability and willingness to travel.

Experience
Essential:
- Campaign coordination experience of at least 5-7 years, including international experience
- Substantial knowledge of the issue of climate change, renewable energy and sustainable development as well as of international affairs
- Prior work experience with sustainable development in the non-profit sector, advocacy and working with the media
- Complete fluency in English (written and spoken). Additional languages, especially French, are an asset
- Excellent oral and written communication skills - able to articulate clear messages to a variety of different audiences
Desirable:
- Knowledge and experience with international NGO networks, parliamentarians, ministries and media
- Prior experience with basic finance and administration tasks
