Irrigation Engineer - Technical Assistance to the Department of Irrigation (Malawi) About DAI: DAI is an employee-owned global development company. Objectives of the role:
The objective of this contract is to contribute to implementing component 2 ‘Irrigation' of the support to the agriculture sector-wide approach (ASWAp) and green belt initiative (GBI) programme in its 2 subcomponents: a) Support to the establishment of the National Irrigation Development Fund; b) Development of medium- and large-scale irrigation schemes.
Length of the project: 36 months Start Date: June 2014
Qualifications and Skills:
  • University degree in irrigation, agricultural water management, irrigation agriculture, natural resource management, civil engineering or similar field
  • Fluency in English in writing and speaking
  • Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills
General Professional Experience:
  • At least 10 years' professional working experience in water management in developing countries
  • At least 5 years' experience implementing donor-funded agriculture and/or agricultural water management projects in developing countries
  • At least 3 years' experience in the design, implementation and management of irrigation schemes
Specific Professional Experience:
  • At least 5 years' experience in leading and managing multidisciplinary teams of experts
  • Proven track record in preparing (pre-)feasibility studies and detailed designs for irrigation projects
  • Proven track record in preparing irrigation and water strategies, including formulation of policies
  • Experience in managing EU funded technical assistance projects in these areas is considered an advantage
  • Experience in managing small scale labour based work contracts on projects in Sub-Saharan Africa is considered an advantage
