The Department of Mathematical Sciences is responsible for teaching and research in Mathematics, Applied Mathematics and Computer Science at Stellenbosch University. The Applied Mathematics Division is keen to strengthen its research in existing active research groups, in particular: computer vision and machine learning; fluid modelling and simulation; numerical analysis and scientific computing; applied discrete mathematics. Duties:
- Teaching of undergraduate engineering mechanics;
- teaching undergraduate and postgraduate;
- Applied Mathematics modules;
- active research and publication;
- advising and supervising postgraduate students;
- interacting with and enhancing the activities of one of the research groups in the Applied Mathematics Division.
Requirements:
- PhD in Applied Mathematics, Mathematics or Engineering;
- ability to teach large undergraduate engineering mechanics classes;
- experience in teaching Applied Discrete Mathematics;
- a research interest that will strengthen the current research groups in the Applied Mathematics Division;
- growing track record of publication in internationally recognised journals and participation in local and international conferences;
- ability to conduct independent research;
- strong commitment to teaching and student supervision;
- sound communication skills in Afrikaans and English.

Commencement of duties: 1 July 2014 or as soon as possible thereafter
