Position Summary

IREX seeks Senior Technical Expert candidates for anticipated Early Grade Reading Programs. Individuals should be able to provide materials design, training, coaching and technical assistance to improve the quality and quantity of basic education services with a specific and focused emphasis on improving early grade reading outcomes.
Positions are contingent on funding.

Duties & Responsibilities

As a senior project team member and technical advisor, responsibilities could include:
• Provide technical management of all early grade reading instruction, training, coaching, materials development, and assessment activities
• Contribute to the development of project strategy; oversee and prepare relevant project deliverables.
• Coordinate closely with national and decentralized education institutions and local partners
• Provide technical management of teacher training and coaching support as it relates to early grade reading instruction and assessment of student learning outcomes.
• Oversee the design of training and coaching materials, such as scripted lessons plans, decodable books, and other teaching and learning aids
• Oversee project staff and embedded reading trainers/coaches in line with project work plan.
• Oversee project implementing partner(s) within the early grade reading instruction portfolio.

Qualifications

• Advanced degree in education with a concentration in early grade reading, international development, or other relevant field
• At least five years’ experience in developing readers through team approaches
• At least five years’ experience in developing modules for continuous teacher professional development in reading
• At least five years’ experience in developing assessment instruments in learner reading
• Experience with Early Grade Reading Assessment (EGRA) is a plus
• Demonstrated ability to work with host governments and cooperating partners in implementing a complex project in the field under challenging circumstances.
• Effective communication skills, both orally and in writing to make formal and informal presentations and to compose professional and analytic reports and program documents.
• Excellent interpersonal and team work skills.
• Second language proficiency a plus
