ILGA-Europe is the European Region of the International Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Intersex Association (ILGA). It is a non-governmental umbrella organisation which represents its members, principally organisations of lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans and intersex persons, at the European level by advocating with European Union institutions, the Council of Europe and the Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe. Its membership consists of some 400 organisations from 47 European countries. Its purpose is to fight for the rights of those who face discrimination on the grounds of sexual orientation, gender identity, or gender expression.

Background

Established in 1996, ILGA-Europe has grown from a volunteer-run organisation to a board-run NGO led by a professional staff team based in Brussels. ILGA-Europe has experienced an important period of growth and development since 2006 in terms of staff (from 6 full time staff to 13 full time staff since 2010) and budget (from €750,000 to more than €2,000,000 in 2013). As a result, ILGA-Europe increasingly needs skilled and highly motivated people to join its dynamic and professional team and to respond to growing demands for expertise placed on ILGA-Europe.

The job

The Financial and Administrative Officer is responsible for providing financial, administrative, and clerical services in order to ensure effective and accurate financial administrative operations. The Financial and Administrative Office will also be responsible for the coordination and management of events and trainings in correlation with ILGA-Europe’s grant regulations and budget constraints.
Candidates should be strongly committed to working for human rights and equality, and have competencies and demonstrated experience in:
  • working in an administrative and support role, including experience with setting up and managing administrative systems;
  • working with and implementing financial procedures and policies;
  • solid experience in the administration of project budgets, processing of financial documents, accordance with grant requirements and related financial administrative tasks;
  • experience with planning and coordinating events;
  • working with a wide range of people including member organisations, external experts, board members, and representatives from other organisations;
  • ability to maintain a high level of accuracy in preparing financial information;
  • excellent communication skills including the ability to operate computerized accounting, spreadsheet and word-processing programs, and e-mail at a highly proficient level.
Qualifications, experience and other requirements are:
  • A high standard of written and spoken English;
  • A working knowledge of Russian and/or French (highly desirable);
  • Ability to work as part of a diverse team, and maintain excellent working relationships;
  • Sensitivity to working in a multicultural and diverse environment and commitment to promoting respect for equality and diversity;
  • Demonstrated capacity to adapt to rapidly changing environments;
  • Ability to relocate to Brussels and travel in Europe;
  • Experience of working in an NGO (desirable);
  • Experience working with private fundraisers and donor campaigns (desirable).
Employment information: full-time position subject to continued funding for the post and successful completion of the 6 month probation period. Salary scale: Euros 43,920 – 48,988 in four annual increments, starting at the beginning of the scale. The organisation has a generous remuneration package, including contributing to local transportation costs, luncheon vouchers, a Pensions scheme for employees and ‘family friendly’ policies. Relocation support from within Europe to Brussels will be given where appropriate.
