This position is located in the Human Trafficking and Migrant Smuggling Section (HTMSS), Organized Crime and Illicit Trafficking Branch (OCB), Division for Treaty Affairs (DTA), United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), in Vienna, Austria.

The incumbent will work under the direct supervision and substantive guidance of the Chief, HTMSS and designated senior staff, and the overall guidance of the Chief of OCB.

Education
An advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in criminal law, criminology, and/or related social science, international relations, political science, law, public administration or a related field is required. A first-level university degree in similar fields in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.

Work Experience
A minimum of five years of progressively responsible relevant professional experience in crime prevention and criminal justice at national and international levels is required. Direct experience in the criminal investigation and/or prosecution of transnational organized crime, preferably on cases of trafficking in persons and/or smuggling of migrants, or other roles concerning the responses to trafficking in persons and/or smuggling of migrants is highly desirable. Experience in international criminal justice matters as well as familiarity with project formulation, implementation and monitoring, and exposure to international development cooperation is highly desirable. Experience in the United Nations or similar international organization is desirable.

Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the position advertised, fluency in English, i.e. oral and written proficiency, is required. Knowledge of other United Nations official languages (Chinese, French, Russian) is desirable.
