Programme officer, Climate change adaptation and DRR, Malawi

Poverty is an outrage against humanity. It robs people of dignity, freedom and hope, of power over their own lives. Christian Aid has a vision – an end to poverty – and we believe that vision can become a reality. We are striving to bring lasting change to the lives of the poorest communities. We work wherever there is great need, helping people to find their own solutions to the problems they face, irrespective of their religion, caste or creed. If you’re passionate about positive change across the world, then this job might be for you.
The Bridging Disaster Risk Management with Resilience in Malawi’s Disaster Prone Districts Project seeks to build and consolidate in a sustainable manner progress achieved in reducing vulnerabilities of communities to climate-related disasters in the Salima, Chikwawa and Nsanje districts of Malawi. The action uses a three-pronged approach of: increasing access to and use of climate information at community and institutional levels for climate-related disaster preparedness, response and adaptation; strengthening communities and local government agencies' (LGAs) capacity to anticipate, respond and recover from climate-related disasters (EWS and DRR planning). The programme is being implemented in Salima, Chikwawa and Nsanje by a consortium led by Christian Aid. Consortium members include COOPI, Goal Malawi and the Evangelical Association of Malawi (EAM). The project is sponsored by ECHO.
Christian Aid is looking for a Programme Officer, Climate Change and Disaster Risk Reduction to lead, manage, coordinate and monitor all project interventions and ensure that these interventions are implemented in accordance with the programme log frame and budgets. In addition, the post-holder will be responsible for managing Christian Aid partnerships and capacity building at district level.
Candidates must be educated to at least degree level in a development related discipline and have significant experience of appraising, monitoring and evaluating programmes and partnerships. Experience of providing technical support to partners in DRR and Climate Change adaptation programming is essential, as well as experience of working with partners and communities in empowerment based processes. Strong monitoring and documentation skills are a must.
