Organizational Setting and Reporting
The United Nations Human Settlements Programme, UN-Habitat, is the agency for human settlements. It is mandated by the UN General Assembly to promote socially and environmentally sustainable towns and cities with the goal of providing adequate shelter for all.
This position is located in the Production Unit of the Advocacy, Outreach & Communications Branch located in the External Relations Office in the Office of the Executive Director, UN-Habitat.
Responsibilities
Under the direct supervision of the Head of the Production Unit, the incumbent will undertake the following tasks:
- Participate in initial meetings with clients to discuss potential design projects, technical specifications, costs, schedules/deadlines.
- Independently undertake website development assignments, including high priority requests, for a variety of UN-Habitat sponsored activities.
- Prepare and develop all approved designs for web pages in electronic format for final review and implementation in line with agreed UN-Habitat visual and information architecture standards.
- Provide guidance and support throughout the project website design and production process; coordinate and follow-up with clients and other relevant parties and ensure that projects are on schedule.
- Upload and maintain content on the website and assist Information Focal Points throughout the organization to upload and maintain their content, publish edited and approved content and ensure that they appear correctly on source and mirror servers.
- Ensure quality assurance across all UN-Habitat webpages; Regularly review content on the site, repair broken links, implement Web 2.0 features etc.
- Perform other related duties as may be assigned.

Education
- Completion of High school diploma or equivalent with supplemental trainings in MS SQL, ASP, NET, Web 2.0 technologies, HTML, CSS and Ajax required.
Work Experience
- A minimum of seven years of experience in development and implementation of complex web based systems using MS SQL, ASP and .NET.
- Experience in Agile software development methodologies is desirable.
Languages
- English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat.
- For the post advertised, fluency in oral and written English is required.
- Knowledge of another official United Nations language is an advantage.
Assessment Method
Evaluation of qualified candidates may include an assessment exercise which will be followed by competency-based interview.
