Based in Washington, D.C., ACDI/VOCA is a nonprofit international development organization that delivers technical and management assistance in agribusiness, financial services, enterprise development, community development, and food security to promote broad-based economic growth and vibrant civil societies. ACDI/VOCA has approximately 70 projects in 35 countries and total revenues of approximately $173 million.

We are seeking a D.C.-based Publications Editor who will be working closely with the Senior Director of Operations Support Services in order to facilitate coordinated, consistent, flexible, and high quality of editing of key publications and donor deliverables within the institution. In the process, the Publications Editor will monitor the current and upcoming internal editing requests, tracking progress, anticipating difficulties, and orchestrating solutions that cut across different operating and technical units of the organization. The Publications Editor will also be working to promote adherence to ACDI/VOCA’s style guide and providing editorial advice to internal writing teams as needed. Lastly, this position will also help in identifying or developing capable alternate editors and will be coordinating their schedules as necessary.

Responsibilities include:
• Facilitating coordinated, consistent, and high quality document editing within the organization.
• Editing and providing quality assurance for proposals, CVs, manuals, marketing materials, and donor deliverables (English usage, consistency of style, clarity and adherence to ACDI/VOCA style guidelines, compliance with donor requirements, and overall visual presentation).
• Providing editorial advice to in-house teams writing proposals.
• Writing and/or editing and providing editorial guidance on an array of ACDI/VOCA informational and marketing materials.
• Ensuring that the Publications unit is current on editing schedules, templates, and guidance for various proposals and donor deliverables as well as other internal writing initiatives.
• Ensuring outgoing project documents are complete and accurate.
• Ensuring timely submission to donors, partners, and project units.
• As necessary, working with other department teams to develop messaging strategies that support company objectives.

A master’s degree required in English, journalism or related field, with a minimum of six years’ experience in writing, editing, publications management and communications strategies required. Candidates must have knowledge of proposal writing and editing, especially in the context of USAID contracts, grants, and cooperative agreements. Good marketing and outreach skills required. Familiarity with The Chicago Manual of Style and AP Style Guide required. Working knowledge of, and experience with a personal computer and Microsoft Office Suite required. Willingness to play a complementary role on a smoothly functioning team required. Experience with Adobe Acrobat, InDesign, and Photoshop preferred. Strong organizational, communication, prioritization, and follow-through skills preferred.
