Deputy Team Leader (Education)
The US Mission/Mozambique is recruiting for a Deputy Team Leaderwithin the Education Office. This position is a local hire position and is open to all US Citizens and Eligible Family Members and current employees who meet the stated qualifications. The scope of work of this position equates to a GS 13 grade level. The employee will work 40 hours per week and will work under the supervision of the Supervisory Education Officer.
BASIC FUNCTION OF POSITION
The incumbent will provide management and support for ongoing education program activities, particularly in the areas of Early Grade Reading (EGR), school management, gender, inclusiveness, orphans, vulnerable populations, civil society strengthening, and child protection. He/she will represent the education portfolio to USAID stakeholders and external development partners and will conduct regular assessments and site visits to mine data and information in support of drafting design and procurement documents related to the scale up of EGR activities in the USAID Mozambique portfolio. The incumbent will also interface as needed with the Ministry of Education (MINED) to ensure that appropriate and robust data and information is collected to draft documents for USAID education activities and will ensure effective coordination and integration with other USG-funded activities in the same geographic areas, especially those working in the areas of education, school feeding, early childhood development (ECD), gender equality, inclusiveness, orphans and vulnerable children, life skills, livelihoods, and civil society strengthening. In addition, the incumbent will carry out, as required, tasks related to the full range of Education Office functions, and assist Mission staff in conducting broader cross-sector activities.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED
Education: Master’s degree in international development, education, project management, and/or public administration.
Experience: At least five years of experience in project management or public administration.
Knowledge: The incumbent must have demonstrated capabilities in management of education projects or the monitoring and evaluation of international development programs.
Language Proficiency: Fluency in English and Excellent oral and written skills is required.
Skills and abilities: a) Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with a range of professional counterparts, including Ministry and technical staff, civil society organizations, U.S. government colleagues, and education sector partners. The candidate must demonstrate cross cultural sensitivity, tact and poise, as s/he may be called upon to interact with senior level officials from a range of cultural backgrounds, including ministry representatives; b) Demonstrated leadership in a team environment and ability to work in a collegial and persuasive fashion is required. Proven record of effective, team-based working relationships, from staff to policy-making levels, with a wide range of individuals and organizations, including technical experts or contractors, host country partners (public and private sector), and international organizations; c) Strong interpersonal skills and superior written and oral communication skills in English are essential. The ability to meet tight deadlines with concise, clear and well written documents and oral presentation skills is required. A writing sample will be required and a writing test conducted during the selection process..
