Finance Volunteer, Malawi

Partners In Health (PIH) is a non-profit organization based in Boston, Massachusetts, USA, whose mission is to provide a preferential option for the poor in health care. PIH began working in Malawi in 2007, where today we serve a catchment area of 125,000 through 11 health centers and two hospitals in partnership with our sister organizations. Abwenzi Pa Za Umoyo (APZU) is in Neno district and we seek to recruit suitably qualified and experienced candidate for the following position tenable at Neno Boma.
FINANCE VOLUNTEER
  • Works to capacity build finance team of seven comprised of two finance assistants, and four cashiers, including: training staff, determining priorities, assigning work tasks, coordinating processes, providing direction and coaching, ensuring quality of deliverables.
  • Reviews and analyzes financial statements related to PIH/APZU
  • Assesses future cash needs and manages cash flows
Manages financial aspects of PIH/APZU including:
  • Monitoring all projects related expenditures according approved budget;
  • Providing financial advice and support to APZU Program Managers concerning the conduct of financial reviews, revision of financial reports, interpretation and application of policies and procedures;
  • Review entries posted in Serenic accounting systemArrange payment of supplier invoices in a timely manner.
  • Ensure documentation is complete and correct.
  • Ensure monthly reconciliation of all bank accounts on a timely basis.
  • Ensure compliance with Malawi tax and finance laws
QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION:
  • Professional qualification in Accounting: CPA III or ACCA (or equivalent) and educated to degree level – finance or management preferred.
  • A minimum of five years of relevant experience managing a Finance function, with at least three years in International Non-Governmental Organizations, particularly with complex budgets, monitoring and financial accounting
  • Proven audit and training experience
  • Proven skills in managing change, achieving results, ensuring quality, and building teams and capacity
  • Strong computer skills, especially in Microsoft Excel and accounting packages such as Serenic Navigator
  • Ability to remain productive under pressure as part of a professional team
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including cultural sensitivity, assertiveness and negotiating skills
  • Willingness to live in a remote area
