Impact Hub: Africa Communications Manager
Position Summary
We are looking for a Communications Manager to join our global communications team, to take on managing communications for Impact Hub in Africa. Our ideal candidate has a proven track record in creating content for various channels with a strong focus on strategy development as well as a proven track record in executing online campaigns. Ideally you have written and executed on a communications strategy. Preference will be given to those candidates who have experience in video production, graphic design and/or photography. The position will be exclusively for people based in Africa.

As part of this evolution, we are now looking for an all-star communications manager to join our Africa team as a full-time engagement. This position will be responsible for all communications relating to Impact Hub’s Africa activities.
This is a great opportunity for someone who has extensive experience in broad and international communications campaigns, spanning various countries and who understands the challenges of limited communication channels and diverse target audiences. The nature of the virtual team will require keeping close connections with various stakeholders on the project, all geographically dispersed.
It’s also a direct way into the global Impact Hub organization and the Resilience Initiative work, at a time where the Impact Hub Network is rapidly growing across Africa.
Impact Hub and Cordaid: Resilience Africa
The Resilience Africa initiative consists of a multi-layer program with the aim to develop strong and resilient local entrepreneurial ecosystems and subsequently local economies and societies in five countries across Africa. The five African countries are Burundi, Democratic Republic of Congo, Ethiopia, Kenya and Sierra Leone. The initiative includes a Seed Program, two regional incubation programs for local entrepreneurs (Impact Hub Fellowship and Social Business Incubator) and a series of thought leadership events. The purpose of the Seed Program is to identify, select, and enable local, high-potential entrepreneurial teams in the process of building Impact Hubs in 5 African countries modified to fit the specific context in each country and city. The aim is to build a locally-owned and driven, sustainable physical and social infrastructure for entrepreneurship and innovation in selected fragile states.
Job Description
Impact Hub Africa project communications manager
- Taking an analytics driven approach to selecting and evaluating the most effective communication channels
- Developing strategic communications plans for Impact Hub Africa projects, both internally and externally, with a focus on Resilience Africa
- Drafting a coherent overall communication strategy for Impact Hub Africa initiatives
- Creating content for all relevant channels, with a specific focus on online and social media
- Designing online and print collateral (some basic graphic design)
- Video production for events related to Africa projects (capture, edit and produce)
- Aligning operations with both local and global stakeholders
- Integrating into a global communications team by Coordinating posting relevant content with local Impact Hub communications operatives around the world

- You have relevant work experience in communications, both internal and external
- You have a firm grasp of all relevant communication channels, with experience in online campaigns, video production, analytics reporting and graphic design
- You are passionate about and immersed into relevant topics, developments and conversations in the field of social impact and innovation
- You have a natural interest in working with entrepreneurs
- You are fluent in English and French and have strong writing skills
- You have excellent user skills in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- You are comfortable working in graphic design programs (Adobe Creative Suites)
- You are comfortable communicating with several stakeholders and able to work collaboratively within multidisciplinary and virtual teams
- You are open-minded, self-reliant, and excited about being part of a diverse, fast-paced, global start-up environment
- You are able to demonstrate key components of the Impact Hub approach: entrepreneurship, collaboration, innovation and exceptional execution ability
